Hello and welcome!
Many people here both keep and breed garters, such as myself, so I'm sure you'll have no problem finding yourself a leetle friend. Or friends. ;D

Hi Jade, and welcome to the forum.:)
Yes, you can get brightly coloured Garter Snakes... have a look through the photo library.

Jade, there are three sub-species of Checkered, but you're only likely to come across one in the UK... Thamnophis marcianus marcianus. It's fine to keep a small group of these together, as long as they are of similar size.
They are average sized Garters (usually) around 36" would be a good size one. I've always found them to be very good feeders.

T. ordinoides would be a good choice in that case.... But if you can find any in the UK, let me know, I've been looking for ages!

theres only 2 types of checkereds.....normal and albinos. I did see photos of a hypo checkered, but not sure if they are going t0 breed it. they can get up to 3 feet for females and 2 feet for males. they do eat well.
