This is a compilation of any Thamnophis I have photographed in the field. I don't have the most recent 2 ordinoides on the computer yet, So I will add to this later... I do a fair bit of field herping and have TONS of photos of other species, feel free to browse through my photobucket, just please ask my permission before using any photo.

fantastic pics, when i see pictures as well done as these it always makes me aware i really need photography lessons lol.

Theses photos are Great. Is "shutter speed" what allows you to get the toungs so clear in these pics? I cant pull it off with my wimpy little sony :mad:

shutter speed helps. I am only using a Sony H9 right now with a Canon macro diopter lens. I like to shoot in natural light as much as possible, and generally like up close macro portrait shots with or without tongue of snakes. I like getting really close so I don't have to zoom in as much, which can be an adrenaline rush for shots like this...

practice practice practice!!! some std. rules help alot liek the rule of thirds, knowing where the sun is in relation to you and the subject, what ype of lighting and background work best for different subjuects...
