I was wondering if you have a name that might be confusing to pronounce at first to others in other country's could you please write your name and how to pronounce it? especially if your going to the world meeting, i would like to be able to say everyone's name
Loren

Loren;
Lor (Pronounced to rhyme with "door") en (pronounced to rhyme with "pen")
Slightly more emphasis on the first syllable.
I have noticed that usually, when used for a man (thats what I am- 100%), it has emphasis on first syllable, but for women, it has emphasis on 2nd syllable (like Sophia Loren)

Gijs & Sabine
05-26-2008, 08:39 AM
I think Gijs has the hardest name to pronounce right :D
It's like growling or like there's somethink in your throat.....GGGGGG and than i, but without the whawha......Gijs. You guys probebly don't understand it anymore :D :D (except for the Dutchies)
It's sooooo funny to hear an English person say Gijs name !!
Last year an English guy came to visit us, but at the end he gave up to say it right and he called Gijs just "G"
So if you can't figure it out, just call him "G" ;)
And my name, Sabine, is quite easy.

I do have a microphone, but I'm not much of a technicus
And if I understand you right I think Sabine is with a silent e.
Stefan-A
05-26-2008, 09:33 AM
And if I understand you right I think Sabine is with a silent e.
In that case, it's not so easy. Sabine doesn't have a silent 'e' in most of the languages I'm familiar with. :)
Gijs & Sabine
05-26-2008, 09:50 AM
Than I probably did misunderstand you :D
You say the 'e' but not like the 'e' like in the alphabet.
I don't know how to explane better :p James know how to pronounce it right :D

Tamn-ofis and sear-tahl-is. :)
Doesn't really matter how it is pronounced, as long as people know what you mean. It's a dead language with no native speakers, so it's okay to abuse it. ;)

I know many who would do the same. :D But I find it a lot more liberating to just accept that nobody really knows how it is supposed to be spoken.

I know this is an old thread but i feel that I need to add my own name
Nick (not hard) Huizenga (Hue-zing-ga) the last name is dutch and they would probably pronounce it like this (hi-sin-ka) or close to anyway.
And as for my screen name Haz Anga, some people like to pronounce it as (Haze-Anga) But it's actually (Has-Anga)

It's both. That's the problem. Pronounciation should follow Latin rules, but the words it's composed of are Greek.
No-one ever gets my surname right.
It's Eyland, pronounced ee - land. Not eye - land (or 'island'!) as most people say.
My first name should be no trouble. ;)
