I have been out looking a few times this year. Not as much as I would like because gas prices are too high now. Here are some of the recent finds...
I will have to make a couple post to get them in because this forum only allows so many images each time. Thanks for looking, Jerry

This is some of what I come across. I see several fence lizards & other spiecies of reptiles & amphibians too. I wish I could take pics of them all. I hope this inspires all that live around where herps are to get out & enjoy seeing them in the wild.
Thanks again for looking,
Jerry

Love all the pics, Jerry. I'm always amazed by how close you get to the rattlers to take their picture. They don't even look like they mind, either!

Has anybody here kept glossy snakes?

Mojave Glossy (Arizona elegans candida). 3 years captive and counting.

California Glossy (Arizona elegans occidentalis). 2 years captive and counting.

Both doing great on thawed mice. They are neat snakes- one of my many favorite species. Very strong for their size. The Mojave is a great snake for testing if your cage is secure- if its not, it will let you know.:)

Good job, Loren!
I have brought them home before & kept them for a little while. They ussually do great, but when you keep as many snakes as I do, you just can not keep them all...at least that is what my wife says...LOL!

Very nice!!

I would love to hear some tips for finding the right type of area to even start looking. There are a lot of rice fields(marshes) around here and I thought I would have good luck night driving on some of the roads between those fields. I only tried a couple of times but found nothing. Don't know if I'm going at the wrong time of day/night, wrong time of year, or if it's not the right type of habitat to look in? Suggestions anyone?

"I would love to hear some tips for finding the right type of area to even start looking. "

Best bet is usually late spring/early summer nights with decently warm temps and low amounts of moonlight(or better yet, no moonlight), on roads that are out in the middle of good habitat. I mostly find them out down to about 67-70 degrees f. (evening temps, at the time of driving), sometimes cooler.
Need to find good habitat with low traffic. Hilly undeveloped grasslands with plenty of rock piles are a good bet -around here anyways.

Thanks Loren! Been chilly here the last couple of days. I'm going to give it a shot when it warms up again. Finding low traffic is getting more difficult here, but I have a few places in mind. Wish me luck!
