Forum Server Move

With the impending move to a new server....

Jason, do we have any idea yet as to when this move might take place?:)

I am hoping that we will be able to move to a new server next weekend. Just have to get our ducks in a row so everything will go smoothly. I will post more once I have all the details worked out. Thanks for asking.

That's great news, Jason. I've been looking forward to the move to a better server for a while.....
I don't envy you the work involved, but I'm sure we'll all be patient while the forum's down during the transition.

just out of pure curiosity but what does that mean for the addicted following? will it be faster? more options? moving to a new server means nothing to me lol

The main advantage (from my point of view) will be that the forum won't keep 'going down' all the time, as it has been recently.

I agree wholeheartedly!
It will also lower the amount of cursing my kids hear coming from me due to the forum being down.:D

Who hosts this forum? Is it at someones home?

I have been doing IT for 10 years... My skills are focused in Unix/Linux Environments however I can do anything with windows..

If any help is needed in anyway feel free to give me a shout.

We have been having outages on the forum due to too many members. Which is kind of a good thing and while it is not the primary concern, I am also hoping to improve performance. Might not happen right after the move, but it will happen.

My dad is too, but I would not trust him with this sort of thing. :) While we are both DBA types, he is more focused while I have a broader background due mainly to my different sites using multiple languages and databases. I guess you could say I am a generalist.

I didn't mean it like that :) Truth be told I have been viewing this forum for about 4 months I think, I have never experienced any issues. Recently I started posting and the same goes for that. So job well done!

Do what I do at work, If something goes wrong blame it on the end-user!! :D

Scratch that, im an ***. I see the default notification settings are daily..

There will be a slight delay in the move due to a couple problems. Once being the new host corrupted the server during a move and it was down for most of the weekend. Not a good start I would have to say, but I have been with them since Christmas and this was the first time they goofed, but what a goof.

Nothing will get deleted in the move, and we are hoping to have more room to grow on the new server.

Well the move that was announced a short time ago was quietly put on hold about a week back, but now that I know more, I thought I would let everyone know that the server move it back on. That said, there is good news and some bad news. The Good news is that we will have a new server Monday or Tuesday, and will be fully moved over when it happens. Nothing will change except that we will be on our own dedicated server. A major leap from the package we are on now. The bad news is that we will not be staying on that server for more then a month, two at the most. I will post more information once I know more.

Sorry, I guess I could have explained it better. While everything is working correctly, we are running out of resources at peak times. Sometimes you may see a 404 page or and error page, but I get a message when ever it happens. Which is becoming more and more ofter and we grow in popularity. I just want to deal with the little "problems" that members may not see before they become major problems that cause downtime. Hope that explains it better.
