Let's make general comments about this month's photo and caption competitions here, to keep the competition threads free of general talk.:)

I think Tore has chosen a great topic this month.... a chance for all our US members to take some awesome 'field shots' of Garters swimming in their natural habitat!
Of course, Garters swimming in their water bowls is fine too. I expect we'll see some really good photos this month!:)

Ooh, I hadn't thought of outdoor shots...maybe I could take mine outside to my watergarden...alas, the waterlilies won't bloom in time, but the water hawthorne is blooming...some possibilities are presenting themselves!

The photo theme for this month is really hard for all only indoor keepers.;)
I wonder that I´m not able to build the planed outdoor enclosure within three weeks, so i have to find a setup for an eligable indoor shot.

Just stick a snake in the bathtub and snap a photo. That's swimming, is it not???;)
If it's not then there goes my entry idea.........:D

I think if you can get a shot of your snake swimming in it's water bowl, that would be quite acceptable.;)

Nice boat Shanley... you really need to find it. You never know when you might need an eight inch plastic boat....... especially these days with Global Warming and such.

05-06-2008, 05:36 PM
No... not udder, utter (as in complete/total/entire) and pants as in ... well ...pants.
Complete rubbish, basically. I wish you Americans would learn to speak English! For God's sake, the Finnish understand me!

Thank you, Sid! You're very kind..... but I have to tell you, it's a mock-up.
The water is in a pie dish.... the reflected greenery is herbs from the supermarket. The picture is taken indoors!

Nothing fishy, LeAnn. I'm being perfectly honest. Here is an earlier attempt (using a Florida Blue). At this point I hadn't found a way to make the reflection dominate the water..... so you can clearly see the pie dish!

So now I'm thinking about this... wouldn't it be fun to set up a natural looking swimming tank... part land, part water, just to put them in once a week and let them swim if they so choose... (wheels turning!!) It could be planted so when the snakes aren't in it it's just a nice looking terrarium.

Guys, only one week left until the competition closes and voting begins...... There aren't nearly so many entries as I expected this month.
If you want to take part in this one you'd need to post your photos pretty quick.:)

So, I guess the entries we have now are all we're going to get... I thought there would have been more, the topic was excellent.
No doubt 'Boots' will set up the voting poll pretty soon, so we'll all get the chance to choose our favourite.:)

Right guys, the May 2008 contests are now closed to new entries. I've set up the polls for this month's contests... I'm afraid they lack the usual 'thumbnail' page, but I have PMd Boots and asked him to add them when he can.
Don't forget to vote for your favourites.:)
