The odd thing is there's red/pink in between the scales nearer his head.

I am not TOTALLY familiar with Butler's... but I am leaning more towards that since it doesnt look like an eastern at all to me.

Stripe on scales 1+2+3... That's what's throwing ME off. Found in the middle of eastern turf too.

I'm beginning to think butler's... This could be bad, I have him in with two female easterns, and he was unce'ing with one of them the other day.

Are you allowed to keep yours??

Indeed.
But I hope I won't get hybrids. D:

If he's got red markings between some of his scales, maybe he IS a hybrid. I haven't read anything yet about colour variations in Butler's. So far everything I've seen indicates just the brown/gold type of colour. Worth looking into.

I'd bet my money on him being a hybrid. I caught another odd snake on Saturday that I let go, and it thrashed around instead of running away, but it had a lot of red between the scales.

Do all these chaps and chapettes look like easterns?

From what I can tell, they do. Some nice colouring on the one stretched out along the back. Are these all recent finds?

The little one in the back is my first snake of the season, the other two were picked up near and at my friend's house.

Once you look at the Butler's and compare enough to the Easterns, it's actually pretty easy to see the differences. But you've definitely got to learn first, and man, have I had a crash course lately!:p

I just double checked on the snake today and realized the stripe is on 1,2, and 3, and only touches four REALLY close to the head. This, combined with the characteristic eastern coloring, has led me to believe the snake is in fact a very odd eastern.
