Yep, It took a while, but I finally found how to change the max number of options for polls. Would have been nice to have found the setting the day before I was setting up the contest polls. :( But it is now set higher to allow more entries for the next contest.

At the moment....0. :( While I have had many snakes in the past, I had to give them up when I went back to school. Over the summer I started to get the bug again and was trying to track down a checkered Garter to start my collection. When I got my first garter, a Texas checkered garter, they were sold in local stores but no pet stores in all of Edmonton carry garters now. So I started to look online and could not find a forum dedicated to garters so I create the forum instead.
Which might not have been a good idea since now instead of wanting a checkered garter, I am hoping to track down a pair of San Francisco Garters. Know of anyone selling any? :)

Same situation with me. Although my mom is convinced that I'm getting rid of my snake after it reaches 2 feet (yeah right)

I've worked with and actually bred Rough Green snakes before. I don't think they're all that hard to care for as long as you start out with healthy snakes to begin with. The biggest problem with them is feeding. Usually though, they take crickets very well and I offered mine cabbage worms too, which they loved ( I grew them myself on plants on my deck) they may take silkmoth larva as well, but never really tried them. They're almost like keeping some of your smaller lizards (like anoles), just with out legs!:D

Markus,
When first pick up the Green Snakes do get some what hyper. Simply handle them gently and allow them to slither throuth your hands and they calm down very quickly.
I feed mine crickets and other insects.

I have 7 common colored Eastern Garter Snakes. My children & I catch and release many non-venomous species during the warmer weather, but we raised the Garters from a wild caught Mom and released her and most of the babies. We kept 4 female babies. And caught a baby male the same year. Plus we had 2 babies from a different Mom from the previous year. They are kept in a 55 gallon vivarium.

I will get a pic as soon as I get a camera.
The two Thamnophis were wild caught in central Kitsap Co. near the town of Chico on Erlands Point (This is the face shaped peninsula[nose pointing east] jutting north into Oyster Bay, NNE about 1/2 inch from thr Bremerton dot)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/Kitsapcounty-wa.png
The person who identified them as T. ordinoides was a local herp breeder who works with Elaphe, Lampropeltis, rarer Pituophis, et. al. She did not indicate anything about T. ordinoides as to imply rareness, just that it was nice not to see just another T. sirtalis again:confused: .
It sparked a re-interest in Thamnophis though (as much as I hate to say, my original plan for catching wild garters was to feed my Gray-Banded Kingsnake).

Hey El Nino,
I'm sure you've made a few people squirm on that one. I thought, "yikes," but kingsnakes have to live and eat, too. Anyway, you're right. T. ordinoides aren't rare in your area, they're just not real common in the pet trade. There are a couple of differnt morphs, and I just wanted to have a look at yours. Hope to see them soon. Thanks,
Rick

Don't worry y'all...my L. alterna is happy and well fed on pinkies now (although I had to rub them on the garters at first, that step is now unnecessary). I did get him a Green Anole for his birthday though:D .

So what's your favorite snake out of the types you own? Mine is obviously a garter snake (my only snake).
My absolute favorite is my Red-spotted.:D Harder to tame than my T.s.s., but far easier to manage in every other way.

I've two garters one is green with black stripes and the other is black had red markings and yellow under side since looking through the images I'm convinced that the names they were sold under was wrong, I'll put some pics
suzoo: It is usually read: first number for males, second for females, and if you see one with 3 numbers like 1.2.4 it means that four haven't been sexed yet.
zirliz: I would love to see pics and to know what each were sold as being.
