So, I was looking over my vast collection of pictures last night, and being an artist I realized something... hey, that snake makes an "s"... and hey.. part of that one made an "e"... and oh look! if we turn him just a little this one will make an "n"! So then i thought to myself well wouldnt it be cool if i could make a shirt that says I LOVE SNAKES... in snakes? So I began my 2 day ordeal of painstakingly selecting the best pictures of my own snakes to make letters. The biggest pain in the butt was "K" and finally i said to myself shannon youve been looking and turning pictures every which way for 2 hours there is no K anywhere! so two snakes suffice. After I had all of the selected pictures I decided I wanted the snake's head on every letter, so I had to re-select new pictures for about half of them. and so... after MUCH scrutinizing, rearranging, cropping, copying, pasting, coloring everything around each snake solid black...and even chopping off the head of tightie whitie and photoshopping it onto the middle of her body to make a second "e".... I present to you... my new t-shirt!! I have already ordered it on cafepress.com ( its a black ladies v-neck with a nice slim fit just for me)

Sorry but I took measures to make sure that the image is not pirated by outsiders. Those white lines are not normally there.

It got me thinking though, do you guys think this is a marketable idea? I was thinking about selling a few through cafepress but I am not sure if others would be interested or not... or maybe I could make more letters and have like a whole alphabet or something... and if people requested I could add their snakes on it too? i don't really know I am just happy to have a new shirt with all my OWN snakes on it ;)

thanks for looking at another one of my weird quirky ideas :D

yea and maybe later u could get some photos of other peoples snakes so you could do like one of each general species like one garter, one milk, one king, one boa, one python, one corn, on gopher, one rattlers...etc just as a marketing technique, and u could do an all garter one for us on the forum

very kool Shannon, as long as the final print on the shirt looks good you have a shirt to sell.....figure out what your prices will be and I'll order also,
on one condition though, I agree with Reed that you should model the shirt for us..........LMAO;):D

Well, here is what I will do, I am going to wait on the shirt to arrive. If I am satisfied with it, which I am sure i will be I will either put that design up or make some new ones to put up, They will be sold through cafepress.com where you will be able to go on there and order them yourself, and based on which items everyone wants those are the ones i will have available. cafepress is cool because they do the selling for me and will mail me a check every month based on how much I made! I am going to make a white version for it too, white products are usually cheaper, The prices will depend on how much they want to keep for each shirt, and then a bit of amrkup for my profit. I will keep you guys posted, I have gotten an unbeleivable amount of messages from people here, on other forums, and on myspace saying they want one! I never thought it would be this big of a hit! lol!

So did making shirts never work out?

I dig the concept- Don't think I'd wear it myself though, but it's definately marketable- I don't dig Lady Gaga, but she's marketable too. This is just another suggestion, what about a heart shape in lieu of the LOVE made out of snakes?

I always wanted a shirt that read "I Dig Sand Boas" with one of my pics but I don't have any of the nifty computer gagetry to do it with.

I would definitely go for one of Shannon's shirts though. That's too cool! Too bad you couldn't have had it ready to sell at the Hamburg show. But the Mars show in Timonium, Md. is coming up. Hint. Hint.

This was a Necro of a *very* old thread- found it while googling for garter snake shirts and wondered why nothing seemed to come of it. (I have heard mixed reviews of cafe press and thought that might be a factor.)

I'd like a nice Garter themed T shirt, but nothing I've seen out there has struck my fancy.
Some websites/boards I've frequented in the past help pay server and hosting costs by offering a T shirt for sale. Has this ever been brought up here? I couldn't find anything in a quick search.

I liked the shirt but the images could use a little more photoshop work (no offense)

What?!What is wrong with them that could be better?!

color corrections/popping, have the images without tails fade out a little smoother (via very soft brush and some gradients etc), flat lines at the bottom of an image where it was cropped or that was the bottom of the full frame file- either way needs to be filled in.
I could nit pick it further if I had the original .psd file to mess with.
Just little things I would fix before sending it into production.

which is exactly why no shirts have been made yet. The design needs a LOT of work. And I haven't had time to do it. Even though this thread is rather old. This was really just me playing around seeing what I could do with the images I had. At the time, I didn't even have photoshop on this computer... now I do! And I am very good at it.... but I just haven't had the time or motivation....

In fact if I were to do it... I would definitely position my snakes and take new photos of them in shapes exactly for this purpose. These snakes were just happening to be in the poses that you see them in, in photos that I had previously taken.

Personally I would prefer a snake that just happened to be in the shape of a letter over one that has been positioned; thats what makes it so cool ...to me at least lol

If you do get around to doing it I'd help you you with some of the photoshop work. I'm not the best, but I'm far from the worst. If you do like photoshop you should enter some contests on worth100.com
Here's an entry I did that got first :)

Don't mean to criticize your great pic but the rider's far leg position is all wrong. When you ride, wether its English or Western, its always toes up heels down or rider goes off.

Of course, maybe its different when riding a mantis!;)

That's my only nit-pic with the pic. Otherwise, its very cute! Reminds me of a high school D & D campaign I was in where all the characters rode giant bugs. Mine rode a mosquito named, "Thhht". Try shouting that!

I don't mind criticism, it's how one increases their skills if they listen. Now I dont know anything about riding had I though I definatly would have positioned the foot differently. That back leg is completely fake. Could've tucked that leg/knee behind the mantis a bit more. It looks weird to me. Anywho It takes quite a long time to find images that will work with the proper perspective and resolution. That's harder than the actual construction of a lot of images and why many peoples photoshopping doesnt look as real as it could because they get all out of whack images and try to place them together. anywho off to feed some snakes :)

Agreed. That is friggen awesome. Almost as awesome as my newborn baby dragon:

Oh yeah, eat your heart out, herpers! I'm not tellin' where I got this guy. It requires time travel and well, I could tell you how, but then I'd have to kill you.:p
