Ok i know this is not snake related but i had to bust this BIG guy out of jail.. They was going to put him to sleep in 2 days.. so i payed 150.00 for him to become our new family member.. he's fatting up i don't know much about large breeds of dog so if anyone has info on feeding and such would help LOT.. We got him home and after he scarfed down his food and rested for a whole day and half we started to play with him.. He knows sit, lay down, go to bed and careful (which he'll crawl on his tummy over to my kids really gently) on command not our doing.. My daughter (she's 3) saw him and called me over to see him.. when we got him he was so dirty that i thought he was a big black lab.. after we give him a bath this is now what he looks like... I thought my husband was going to kill me bring him home but he took one look at him and started to cry.. I asked what was wrong and he said he looked like a dog he lost when he was a kid and excepted him right way... Here's his pics.. The pound named him Chingy... I have no idea what kind of dog he is just know he's HUGE!!! He's neutered too.. I love the last pic shows his peacefulness..

Ooooohhhhhh he is gorgeous!!!!!! What a sweet sweet boy!!!! Damn, look at those nails tho. Needs a pedicure. :-) He looks like he could be lab/shepherd? Lab/dane? It's so hard to say. I'm very glad you got him tho, he's a beautiful boy. Give him hugs for me. :-) :-)

YES-- Anatolian!!!!!! I can't believe I didn't see that before. Well, are you wanting to feed him free choice or twice a day? I free choice my dogs so it's been a long time since I had to measure out feed. What's his weight about?

well he deff. has dane in him, and i would say anatolian would be as well, as for feeding most large dogs are to be feed on a lifted up bowl to eat and drink, it should not be at floor level, my dane which is 115 lbs eats 12 cups a day 6 in the mornign and 6 in the afternoon and don't let him drink a lot of water right after eating can cause problems, a little bit after feeding is fine and as much as is needed after that.........:)

Is it dry dog food. Have you tried bacon grease? Our beagle goes crazy over it, but beagles are known to be piglets!

It could be the food... you could try another type. It could also be that he just doesn't have a big appetite... some big dogs don't. You can spice it up with some canned and see if that helps, or mix in something else yummy like LeAnn said. I have no issues with feeding "people" food to dogs, I don't think it's possible for a dry over-processed food to provide everything an animal needs to stay healthy.
Keep in mind he's still adjusting to his new life, too. He has been vetted, right? Dewormed?

yeah hes been vetted and dewormed...my friend who works there at the pound told me she looked up his file and just learned that he was a owner surrender.. and that he's 100% AKC Canine Good Citizen Awarded and also a trained attack dog.. :eek::eek::eek: we now have those papers.. Well that explaines the sit and lay down and go to bed and other stuff on command lol.. I wonder what else he is without me knowing?:confused::confused::confused:

"Attack dog" as in Shutzhund trained? I find that very hard to imagine-- that they would then turn him into the pound, and that the pound would in turn adopt him out-- talk about a law suit waiting to happen. You'd better get to the bottom of that.

Yeah and beleave me i have.. hes trained in German this is what his old owner said.. All she said was pasolf (i think thats how you spell it) means watch, packen means bite, and stop him from biting say aus... he's 100% CGC canine good citizen awarded that he has no papers since hes a mutt (her exact words).. he is Dane mix tho.. And that he's micro chipped with Home Again and thats all she told me and hung up on me.. She wasn't a very nice person.. I'm like the nerve of people. :mad::mad:
I have also now found a lady today (thu the AKC.org website) with the CGC that thinks she remember Chingy we're going to take him back for a refresher course of CGC.. so he'll be in my name this time..:):)
Any who he's got a great home here now.. And i have now gotten wet dog food and put half of it in his dry dog food and hes chowing down.. I'm also getting chicken noodle soup and putting half of it at night for something extra to fill him up at night.. My kids love him and so does me and my husband and he loves us.. That's all that matters now.. He sat for 4 hours last night on the couch beside me with his head in my lap.. He's thinkfull he has someone now that loves him.. :D:D

Well, I'm certainly glad he ended up somewhere so good!! Wonder why on earth she turned him into the pound??!! You should also call Avid and have his microchip re-registered in your name, so that if he ever gets lost he'll be returned to you. They will have to contact her for permission but then they can put him in your name.
He sure is a sweetie, and sounds like he needs all that love!! Doesn't sound like he got it before!!

i found this just now and it made me bawl like a baby... made me think of him so i put it on my website.. :(:(:(:(
I Adopted Your Pet Today...
I adopted your pet today...
The one you left at the pound;
The one you had for five years
And no longer wanted around.
I adopted your pet today...
Did you know that he's lost weight?
Did you know he's scared and depressed
And seems to have lost all faith?
I adopted your pet today...
He had fleas and a little cold;
Guess you don't care what shape he's in
You abandoned him I am told.
I adopted your pet today...
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies,
Or was there NO reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your pet today...
He doesn't play or even eat much;
I guess he's very sad inside and
It'll take time for him to trust.
I adopted your pet today...
And here he is going to stay;
He's found his FOREVER home
And a warm bed in which to lay.
I adopted your pet today...
And shall give him all that he will need
Patience, love, and security,
So he can forget your selfish deed.

Nice poem, Natalie.
Unfortunately, the kinds of people who abandon/abuse their pets don't seem to be the kinds who understand or even feel bad when confronted with it.
I'm so glad he's found a nice loving home now with you.:)
