I'm not sure mine will ever have babies
Sammy and Boyfriend have been at it again
would they be doing that if it worked the first time?
I wonder whether they're just bloody hedonists
last time I looked, she was clearly into it as well
anyway
can't wait to see pics of your babies, Lu

What kind of food do you have offered?
You can try to spray some water to the enclosure before feeding, thats my suggestion and worked well for me several times.

I hear you-- I can't imagine I'd be able to let them go... I'd have a hard time trusting people to take care of them. Well, I'd probably feel comfortable with a couple of people on this forum. Maybe. :D:D LOL!!!
Funny, isn't it, I'm more comfortable adopting out a dog or a horse than a snake... but it's because people really don't tend to view reptiles as lifetime commitments. They're more of a novelty to most.
Well, Lulu, you'll just have to keep them all... except for the ones you hand deliver here... LOL!!!

well for those that can get local i am going to put up an ad to see who is interested.

guys, i can still only get the same 5 to eat. 11 still havn't touched a thing.
when should i start worrying?
any tips?
Snaky
04-23-2008, 02:29 AM
They can take a few weeks without food.
You can try a living fish in a shallow water dish. The movement of the fish might trigger the snakes.
Otherwise if you think it's necessary, you can forcefeed them once. Usually they'll start eating after you did it once...
Gijs & Sabine
04-23-2008, 06:51 AM
First of all, congrats Lulu !!! (kind of late reaction :o)
I agree with Hans, if the food is moving it could work.
And you can consider force feeding if nothing else works. Last year we bought a cyrtopsis ocellatus of wich we knew he wasn't eating by himself. We have force fed him several times and then suddenly he start eating by himself.
Good luck :)

04-26-2008, 06:58 AM
how the hell do you force feed something that is sooooo small?
Zephyr
04-26-2008, 11:10 AM
I prefer the blood and gore technique... Also, using live, flailing fish seems to get their attention as well.
Lulu Bennett
04-29-2008, 02:52 AM
bought a load of neon tetras and only 3 still havn't eaten. :D:D:D:D
soooooo chuffed but its £18 a meal :(
Snaky
04-29-2008, 03:26 AM
It's costy, but hopefully they will start eating normally now. Otherwise, scent the food with a tetra next time... great to hear only 3 are left without having eaten :)
adamanteus
04-29-2008, 03:38 AM
I'm pleased the Neons worked for you Lulu, but they are expensive. Have you thought of putting some strips of trout in the water with them? Then, when the snakes are chasing the Neons, they bump into the trout and 'voila'!

Guys,
Bad news.
10 of the 14 are pretty much dead.
i fed them last night on fish and all but 2 again ate. then this morning i put them into a small container with water (10 poss female in one and 4 poss males in another) and placed them into the adults tank because its a bit warmer. now (3hrs later) all my females are rippled up with regurgitated food around them and the males are happy as larry and ok. just put them in water now incase i dehydrated them and 3 started moving but i don't think it will last long.

Any chance you could try tadpoles? or something amphibian?
Lulu Bennett
05-14-2008, 07:28 AM
can.t get hold of anything like that here i don't think.
what i dont understand is what did it.
2 of the none eaters were amongst the dead. and the four that are fine were put in the adult tank too and they are fine.
i am really confuzzled!

i am almost certain it was human error (a nicer way of saying 'its my own bl**dy fault') i haddn't realised it but the tank was getting to the 90's with the new bulb. i should have paid more attention. i WILL know for next time.
1 out of the 10 survived! she was really weak at first but she is giddy as anything now. really happy with her progress. I have called her Hope.

05-16-2008, 05:19 AM
Sorry for your losses. Don't be too hard on yourself, learn from it and move on :). You still have Hope (double meaning intended :D )!
anji1971
05-16-2008, 06:39 AM
Lulu, as hard as this experience was, and as bad as you feel because of it, just remember two things.
1. We've all made mistakes, and it sucks, but we're only human, and that's how life goes.
2. When things like this happen, someone else on this forum will benefit, because they will remember, and watch for it when they are raising their own baby snakes. So you've potentially saved many little lives by your experience!
Don't be too hard on yourself, and enjoy little Hope. And for heaven's sake, keep us all up to date on her progress!:)
