View Full Version : Gravid Hetwig

Because I had so much fun with the thread:
"Dons massive Garter" I like to start a similar one for Hetwig.
http://www.zooplan.net/images/hetwig_240308k.jpg
How many babies do you think Hetwig will deliver? Let's include all offspring (live and otherwise) in the total. Rossman et al. say that average clutch size for T. sirtalis varies from 7,6 to 32.5 with significant geographic variation. Hetwig is about 37" long and more than 250 gr. of weight.
The price for the best guess will be one baby of the clutch (66% pos.het for amelanistic) that will be delivered to the Terraristika in Hamm in september 2008.

Snaky
03-27-2008, 01:53 AM
That's a nice price, Udo! Do we get any clues on previous clutches she had?

her first litter last year was about five or seven,
can´t tell the exact number because of an accident of cannibalism.
There were only 2 specimens left, my amelanistic female and her 66% pos.het brother.
She has grown a liitle bit since than.:D

Are you massaging her sore back? Helping her prop up her swollen ankles? Running out at her whim for sardines and ice cream? Teaching her how to breathe? Because she looks a little annoyed in that last pic, Udo...:D:D

I had a bad arrival at home, because there was still only one baby.
So I had to visit the vet for Hetwig.
Until I ve´gone to bednothing happend but when I woke up at 3.00 am
I had to find 5 jelly beans and 10 stillborns.
Three of them would have been albinos.
But although I could find seven more living babies and three of them have no black color.

EdgyExoticReptiles
04-08-2008, 11:00 PM
so 22 total? was 25 the closest? and im really sorry to hear about the stillborns and jelly beans :(:(

Stefan-A
04-08-2008, 11:42 PM
Last time we had this competition, the contest were about how many offspring there were, live or otherwise. I think that excludes jellybeans but includes stillborn.

So the total number, according to the same rules, is 18.

I´ve written, that it should be the same rules as in "Dons massive garter".
He counted up to 18 but said nothing about stillborns or jelly beans.
So I ask:" What have you counted, Don?"

Stefan-A
04-09-2008, 02:40 AM
Here's the link to the previous contest's results:

http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/thamnophis-contests/1036-winner.html

18 were born, but two of them died (might as well have been stillborn). The person who guessed 18 was declared the winner. But still no mention of any jellybeans. :) But I don't consider them offspring. ;)

zooplan
