to make sure that my pugets and maritimes bred im going to perform a 24 hour cold snap, thats not harmful to them if there already pregnant right? and i dont have to clean them out if its just for a day right?

I'm not sure about that, Reed. I've never done it. I think I might be reluctant to chill a gravid female, even for a short time.

A cold snap would be a sudden plunge in temperature.

I guess his thoughts are... If the female isn't gravid, his snakes might mate when the temperature comes back up? I can't speak for Reed, but I'm guessing that's what he's suggesting.

Yeh I don't know if I'd risk that with a possibly gravid snake. Also, I don't know if I'd recomend it at all. You really want to avoid very rapid temp. changes. Since they don't have time to get used to it, it could be harmful to them. If you want them to breed, you should brumate them over several weeks. A quick shot of cold really isn't going to have the same affect. Also brumation, allows for a rest period for the maturation of the sex cells. So it's not so much the cold as it is the resting period that triggers things to happen.
