I've had these for a few months, but never taken the trouble to photograph them before. Unfortunately my camera's rubbish!

How much off are the colours in those photos?

Thank you.:) The first one is way off.... flash. The others are a bit off.... artificial light. There is no natural daylight in the UK this weekend!

Well if they look that good in a "horrible" pic, then they must be stunning in real life, James!
Those are great, JAmes. Thanks for sharing.

Did anyone notice that the male lacks the distinctive Thamnophis double head-spot?

Didn't notice...I'm now looking at the pictures again, but I think I still don't see it ...:o

The colours are definately a lot stronger in real life :) those photos definately don't do them justice.

Did anyone notice that the male lacks the distinctive Thamnophis double head-spot?
Are you sure?

Yes, there is a pale pink area where the spots should be.... but the actual spots are absent. I'll take a better pic when he sloughs.

Maybe 'absent' is a slight exaggeration..... shall we say very poorly defined, and fading with each slough.
Here's a comparison...

Male concinnus, with no clearly defined spots..

Male radix, showing more typical Thamnophis markings.

Well, I'm still not convinced that you can't just call the spots "faint". :) At least there are markings exactly where the spots would be.

Mmmm.... maybe you're right when I look again.:o
We'll see how it goes over the next few sloughs, but I'm convinced they're fading.

Very nice pair of concinnus, James
You must see it like this: when you already take great pics like this, imagine what they would look like when you had a better camera :)
