I know it's not garter related, but we do have a cat expert or two on this forum
if anyone can help me figure out what to do . . .
Sienna is not accepting her brother Rascal back and keeps growling and hissing at him
I know he smells different - even I can smell that, so it must be a lot stronger for her
she just doesn't seem to recognize him
but if it's also territorial, then I'm sunk I think
I feel like I have to do a huge letting go of that pile of cats they used to be
not sure why this is so very upsetting to me, but it seems like a big loss
so if you have any idea what I can do now . . .
Wish I had some advice for you, Rhea. Seems like you've had more than your share of pet problems for a while now. Hope you find the answer.

Give it time, Rhea, they'll be fine. This always happens when one comes back from a strange place-- the "Omg you're a total stranger" thing. It make take her a day or two or even a week, but she'll get over it. Cats are soooooo sensitive to change. You could also put him in a seperate room with a baby gate up, so he can be away from her and resting if he's still weak, and she can lie on the other side of the gate and grumble it out of her system.
Just my opinion. :-)

I have to agree with Lori on this one. When I introduce my new cat Ember to Blaze (after his sister had died)....he totally would growl at her and always move away from her when ever she was around. It really upset my wife, cause she thought they'd never get along like Blaze and his sister did. It took some time, but as you can see from the pic below...they're fine now.:)

thanks Roy - especially for the pic - your cats are beautiful
we went in for a follow-up blood draw today and everybody at the vet's assured me that this is just temporary
I'm trying my best to get our smell back on him

If they lived together happily before, then they most likely will again.
It's when they hate each other from the get-go that can turn into a long term problem.
My mom has a few cats, and one just cannot stand one of the others. It's been that way since he was born--7 years!! The older one just refuses to like him...........yet another cat came into the house not long ago, and she was fine with that one.

They will probably work it out themselves. After all cats are well...... cats!:D

listen to what the others said. Cats are very sensitive to change but sooner or later, things should go back to normal. Trust me, I know... we have 5 cats! We recently became the owners of a Maine Coone whom I fell in love with when he was a tiny, scrawny kitten. I named him Simba! Well... the other cats did not like Simba for a long time... but they couldn't resist his antics forever! But now I feel like showing you some pictures! haha....
Here he is as a wiiiittle baby...

Here he is playing with Frosty...

And in this next pic he is at 4 months old!!! currently he is 6 months old... and hes SO big already... his daddy weighs 28 pounds!'

Oh yea, and this is purry, the extremely overly-loving, do ANYTHING to get you to pet her, nosy, blind in one eye rescued cat! with my dogs toy on her back.

and lastly... this is MurMur ( my nickname for him, his real name is Meowth), he has a slight drug problem. So don't feel bad, as least your cat doesn't need rehab!

Love the action shot with Simba and Frosty! I love Maine Coons. We had a two year old male at the pet store I used to work at. He was so cool. He wasn't all that big though....only about 20lbs. We had a women who bought one from the store that ended up getting 40lbs. He was huge!

Sienna is calming down
she sometimes forgets to growl and hiss at Rascal, even when he's right next to her

That's good to hear. Glad things are starting to get back to normal:)

True enough..........I tend to want to run as far away as possible from any hospital type smell, even though I'm trained to work in one!
