Maybe a thread containing recommended breeders could help people that want more snakes or are looking at buying their first.
Kingsnake.com and Scott Feltzer's site are the only ones that I can think of.

Good idea, Matt.
Here are more sites that specialize in garters & misc colubrids. The first one is pretty active throughout the summer (FaunaClassifieds Ads - Garter, Water & Ribbon Snakes - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds (http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/pp_classifieds/showcat.php?cat=13&page=1)). Even though the next one is called a forum, people are just using it to advertise snakes (FaunaClassifieds - Garter, Water & Ribbon Snakes (http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=502&page=1&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=25&daysprune=-1)).
This third site doesn't specialize in garters or misc colubrids, but they normally offer T.s. sirtalis fairly cheap during the summer (Live Reptiles, Amphibians & Insects - Pet Solutions (http://www.petsolutions.com/Default.aspx?CategoryID=40003057)).
It'll be neat to see how active this site becomes when the young are born next spring ;).

I like that second site you posted. But I'm surprised that when you sort it by popularity, garters are on the FOURTH page! Oh well

Since they don't offer different species/subspecies at that 3rd link, I don't think many garter enthusiasts give them a lot of attention. At the risk of stealing Don's thunder, I'm feeling a bit guilty about not recognizing one of our own breeders who has helped many of us ID our snakes (Welcome to Don's Garter Snakes (http://www.donsgartersnakes.com/)).

Not a problem!! Thanks for putting the link in here!!! (ya beat me to it..lol!!!) I hope to expand my collection this summer also....will be expanding over the years for sure!!
Glade Herbs from Florida usually has some Thamnophis. I don't know wheather they breed any of them or not as many of the ones on the site below are wild caught. I have bought from them and was very satisified with the health of their snakes.

I can recommend breeders for those who live in Europe (Or should there be a seperate thread for it?). I only recommend someone that I already bought a snake from. They don't have a website, since I don't know if I can add more information about them for now I only add there names:
Steven Bol (THE best breeder in the Netherlands for garter's in my opinion)
Sabine & Gijs ( they are on the forum here:) and their collection is still growing, but I can certainly recommend them )

I guess that everybody should say where their breeders are from (although it probably says on the site) for obvious reasons.

I agree! I have been looking all over the net and cannot find but 5 breeders.

Hey Sue,
The kingsnake site that Matt was referring to in the first post is:
Kingsnake.com Classifieds > Other Snakes (http://market.kingsnake.com/index.php?cat=6)
Unfortunately, you just missed a large reptile show in St. Louis about 2 weeks ago. Good luck in the search,
Rick

There aren't too many garter breeders in the U.S. :( I have a friend here in Utah that works with western garter snake species... here's a link to his site...

Hi, I read a post about the site of Scott Feltzer. About a year ago I visited that site and I can't find it again. I have tried search engines with no luck. Is there anyone that has the actual web address for the site??
Thanks for the help.

sssssnakeluvr (or however you sell it) the site you posted says hypermelanistic. Isn't it hypomelanistic? Is it different?

Here's Scott's site, he created a new one.,.....
Scott Felzer's Garter Snakes, specializing in aberrant garters (http://www.albinogartersnake.com/)
The hypermelanistic wandering are mostly black...melanistics are generally totally black, or have a white patch under the chin. Hypers have varying amounts of black. I should have these up to breeding size by next winter (and have my permit since they are native to Utah....)

Thank you for the links to the site I asked about. I had my "Sneaky Snake", A beautiful pet Garter for 5 years and sadly she died almost 3 years ago. But now I am ready to have another and I want to get my new pet from a reputable breeder. Any other suggestions that you all may have are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Speaking of reptile shows, does anybody know of any coming up in the Great Plains area? Somebody mentioned one in Des Moines in another thread but is there a calendar somewhere that I can check for other shows?

I think it's a great idea to have a list of recommended Garter Snake breeders/dealers, but it would be better (certainly for me) if it was international and the location could be clearly listed. So often I find a site for a breeder just to discover they are just too far away for me to use them. I only wish that Scott Felzer could supply the UK!

Ssssnakeluvr (Don I think), your old website doesn't work anymore. Do you have a new one? I thought I saw a thread with it but I can't find it.

OK, thanks. When it says "sold out" does that mean that all the babies are reserved or there just aren't any born?

well, thats last summers stuff.... when I have babies they will posted on there and available until paid for.... not gonna be a big year this year... will have double het plains (nebraska and iowa albino, plus christmas ornage genes) and red siders (normal). I might have red spots later and valley garters. I just received a pair of each from Brian Eager, and they were just brought out of hibernation before I received them. Not sure yet if they bred, but will be posting pics if they are....:D
