View Full Version : Can you feed a snake cooked fish?

this may sound stupid but... are you supposed to feed them fillets that are cooked and then cut or thawed then cut?

not sure if they will eat cooked fish...nor would I feed them cooked fish. you can buy fresh fish and freeze them. they can be cut into the amount you need for a feeding before that. then you thaw what you need and feed!

Fresh trout (or frozen/thawed) is the best option. Fish only needs to be boiled if it's saltwater or it contains thiaminase (this can get messy and is a lot of hassle). I used to keep my Ribbon snakes on boiled haddock and cod and used vitamin supplements. ;) I think trout is the best bet though.

what other kinds of fish are okay to feed them... i know not goldfish... now...

Greg is right (in my opinion) on trout being a good all-rounder.... easily available, safe, relatively cheap. Salmon is another easy and safe option.

ok thanks is salmon that is ment for people ok... it's already prepared and frozen...

Prepared is fine, as long as it's not cooked. Also no need for dill sauce!;)
I usually buy fresh, whole (or gutted) trout or salmon, cut them into pieces of a size I can use in one feeding, then freeze them. I then just thaw as many pieces as I think I will need on any given day. Minimum waste, and no problems of trying to keep 'feeder' fish alive.:)

Lol, I go fishing all the time so I have a never ending supply of trout! I jsut thawed a HUGE trout not too long ago... my mom gets reall grossed out when I cut it all up and skin it and what not... i skin i because its easier to cut... I jsut hand the skin to the big females as a treat ;)
