oh well - reddest is probably not something I can afford
but
I'd really like to get a red garter this year
so
which is redder - an erythristic or a flame?
and are there other considerations?

I'd have to say that the flames are probably the redder of the two. You really don't see a lot of super red erythristics, like you do flames. And if you can get Blais line flames, they're almost freakishly red.....like they look fake. Oh and if you do find any Blais flames....LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!:D As far as others, well there are these hypo red T.radix if you want to drop some serious cash (LOL), and there's always the T.e.terrestris, if you can find any. I've also seen some really nice brick red T.ordinoides for sale at a show once. But over all if you want RED , flames are probably the way to go.

I like eastern Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis. The red skin between the scales contrasts well with the autumn orange/brown. Best red you'll ever get, IMO.

Yeh, that is definitely one sharp looking snake. Hope it breeds true, would love to be able to have some like that one day. Still think the Blais line flames make this guy look down right dull though.

that is the reddest garter I've ever seen
it is a bit startling to look at, but since there's no bright green dorsal stripe or glitter, I don't find it offensively gaudy
I doubt very much that anything like that is within my price range though
even the regular flames and erythristics are a bit of a stretch
I'm thinking of just emailing Scott to send me the reddest eastern female within my price range and seeing what turns up
there's another little dilemma though
the male currently shacked up with Sammy is het for both flame and erythristic, so the idea was to get him a mate that he could make some red babies with
however - I really like him with Sammy
the two of them are almost always curled up together, whereas in my parietalis tank noone is even in the same vicinity very often, unless it's for the heat
and no - I don't think they're "in love", like humans might be, but obviously they enjoy each other's company more than the other guys do, and I enjoy watching their togetherness

it hadn't occurred to me, perhaps because the parietalis tank is such a bust, but with the easterns it might work
thanks - that's a great idea
also
if I get a baby this year, it won't be ready to mate for a couple of years anyway

So far from what I saw this is the only one really erythristic garter snake that show real red pigmentation.Usually its brown or poor red THis is red!!!Wow Im amaze. Why do we call erythristic when the snake is brown????This snake mixt with a flame ...OMg .
There is a big difference between red and brownish ???

Felzer does'nt own that snake anymore. As far as crossing it with a flame. It already had a red belly.
I don't think there are any pure blais flames left in america.Thats why I am trying to get that canadian blood back into my lines. It's the dark black and bright red that makes then so attractive.Flames with checkerboard patterns just don't do it for me.

Julio this a beautiful flame !!!
Tom I looked In my dictionnary the see what mean plague? Tanks I learn a new word today!
I know what is your feeling!
YOu can judge a flame on how its looking as adult ,because most of flame on the market are not as stunning as your female when adult.
From what I saw tom your dead female is in my top 10 flame Ive ever seen.I'm sorry for this lost its an irrepleacable snake.
