Marnie... Playing WoW...? No, I must be imagining things. :p

I used to be a total gamer geek. I was a larper...well, I am still a larper...I just haven't been to a game in a while...but my character is still alive. I am actually pretty terrible at WoW...but I used to play a lot. I used to hang out with all the gamer geeks around here...but they refuse to grow up at all so I stopped associating with most of them.

i'm on and off with wow. i'll cancel for a couple months and then resub a month. 85 warrior, 85 pally, lots of alts. i like tanking!

EasternGirl
02-17-2012, 11:22 PM
I just never get very far in it because I'm on and off like you and because I'm terrible...I can't even run straight...I bump into stuff and my friends make fun of me...ha ha. All my friends are always at really high levels and I'm like 7 or something...lol.

marnie, have you ever seen "monster camp" or "darkon"? they're documentaries on larpers and their campaigns. i never got into it, but it does look like a lot of fun.

i had an 80 destro lock(belf) and an 80 enh shammy(troll) until i had to apply to schools....i was a pvpin' machine was never a gamer, but wow was a lot of fun. i could never really get into the whole raiding scene: too repetitive for me. all my buddies that i played with stopped too. pwning alliance cb's just gets too easy after a certain point:D

EasternGirl
02-18-2012, 01:29 PM
No...Mike I haven't. I will have to check it out. Larp is definitely an acquired taste...you have to be quite the geek to pull it off...lol. I do a vampire larp...I can't get into all the fairy larps and stuff...way too geeky for me. It's pretty interesting...there are a lot of politics...political skeeming and plotting...there are people who play for the fighting aspects of it, and people who play for the social/political aspects. I play more for the social/political aspects. The character I play now is the governor of a city and her brother is the prince of the state...or the head vampire. You can travel and go to games in other cites too. This character is pretty powerful...she has a power called serpentis, in which she can turn into a giant snake. Lol...

All my friends who played WoW were into the whole raiding thing...I was never really good enough to go on raids...never really interested either.

mikem
02-18-2012, 02:31 PM
a larper calling other larpers geeky  darkon shows a lot of the political stuff. it's a pretty large group of people split into countries and they basically play tug of war with imaginary land masses, overthrowing kings, trading/bartering, assassinations, wars... and they take it super serious ingame and out. people breaking up and losing friends because of actions taken ingame.. kinda funny and sad at the same time. i'd totally be down for it if i could find a decent group.

raiding has changed in wow since the 40man stuff in the original game. raids are either 10man or 25man with normal and heroic difficulties. the latest raid and all raids to come have an easier difficulty setting if you join in the new raid finder tool they added toin a patch or two ago. with that said, i've only raided seriously back in the day with MC and BWL. that kinda burnt me out on the raiding scene.

EasternGirl
02-18-2012, 03:52 PM
That's interesting to me because our larp has pretty strick rules about not bringing stuff out of game in game and vice versa. It's supposed to be a larp rule. I'm not saying it doesn't happen...of course there are social status things at play...but..you are supposed to avoid that stuff as much as possible...a good gamer is judged in part by how much they can keep out of game stuff out of the game. We have two big larps that run around here and a lot of people left the one because they think there is too much drama...out of game/in game crossover...popularity determining character status and so forth. I know I won't play in a larp that has too much out of game drama.

mikem
02-18-2012, 10:02 PM
real life drama from a game = no thanks. i'd rather larp with myself, haha! :p

Got to admit: the cello as a hard rock/heavy metal instrument does sound pretty awesome.

But I suppose that if you mic it right, and maybe chain it through a distortion processor, there's no reason it shouldn't.

I love Apocalyptica :D

Alpine Herp
02-25-2012, 08:23 AM
@kibakiba, Apocalyptica is pretty good!!! Have you ever heard of Sirenia or Tristainia?? Both are a little harder then Apocalyptica but they both rock the classical influence heavily. I love such a wide range of music; everything from Darkthrone and Nile, to country, classical and electronica. Always depends on the mood though. Sometimes rap and such craziness finds its way to my speakers...

The Beasties were pioneers. Originally a punk garage band, they became white hip-hop artists long before white hip-hop artists were considered cool. And they never felt the need to try to capitalize on that, either. (Take that, Robert Van Winkle!)

That sounds very strange to me.

Are you using a cable, satellite, or DSL? Could be your ISP is having some problems.

Do you use a wireless router? (A few years ago, my router, for inexplicable reasons, was blocking Thamnophis.com - very annoying. It got better, though).

Do you use a 3G or 4G network? If so, some of them either block streaming or require special service plans to access streaming sites.

Try resetting your DNS cache as well (I forget how, but Google can tell you).

Other than that, I have no clue.

ConcinusMan
06-28-2012, 06:00 PM
ALL browsers can be "stupid" if you load them up with tons of outdated plugins and garbage. Also, a browser update (probably an automatic one) can sometimes screw up your add ons or plug ins.

I would completely remove (FIRST) the adobe flash player plugin. Then make sure your browser is completely up to date. Close browser and restart computer. Then download the latest version of the plug in from the adobe site and install it. 9 times out of 10, this will solve the problem. I also turn off automatic updates for the flash plugin. The auto update feature has always been buggy and slow. Only update the plugin if you absolutely have to, which would be the case if your browser has been updated to newer versions several times. Update it only if its several versions behind.

I highly recommend ditching IE (I call it internet destroyer, LoL) if that's what you're using, and switch to firefox or even chrome. Anything but IE.

kibakiba

I'm really enjoying the radio stations coming out of Seattle. It's like time stood still and never went past 1998 or so. They still play all my old favorites such as...

They got this backwards. Should read "Meat Puppets - Backwater"

I like real music. This decade is shaping up to be another crappy one for music. I'm sorry, but synthetic beats, repetitive lyrics, and autotune is NOT music and it doesn't take a shred of musical talent to produce. I feel sorry for kids these days. They don't even know what they've missed.

I've never really listened to or liked the music around today because my Dad used to play his old records from the 60s and 70s to us as kids.Even though he's put the records back in the loft I still listen to and play stuff from the 60s and 70s.

Yo how do you make the actual videos from youtube show up on a post?

ConcinusMan
09-29-2012, 11:38 AM
See the little filmstrip looking button? select and copy the URL (in the address window of your browser, starts with "www.") hit the button and paste it there. This will wrap video codes around the URL. When you post it, the video will show up.(called embedding)

Go to YouTube and copy all of the address to the right of the = sign. Example: youtube.com/watch?v=wDfYHrAYU7c Copy wDfYHrAYU7c to your clipboard(Ctrl +"c"). Now go to the thread you want it in. Click on the "Go Advanced" button which is right next to the "Post Quick Reply" button. Now click on the YouTube button
http://www.thamnophis.com/thamphotos/data//500/medium/youtube_load.jpg

It will load a field in the reply and the cursor will be right where you want it. Now paste(Ctrl + "v") that YouTube address into the field. So it will now look like this.
I did place a spaces in the youtube field so it would not load my actual video.
Hope this helps.

I prefer this method over using the YouTube button.

Here's why.

This video is embedded using the youtube-tags:

aHjpOzsQ9YI

This one is embedded using the video-tags:

I do hope this shows up on your computers and devices the same way it shows up on mine. :D In other words like this:

Some of the Seattle stations play exactly the same stuff they did through the 90's. I guess it's because the 90's "grunge movement" is kind of theirs. Most stations these days broadcast over the web too so you can listen anywhere. The only thing they don't allow to be streamed is ads for local businesses, due to FCC regulations. Break my heart.

I don't like Nirvana at all. Never have. It's the bands that followed that I like. Kurt is definitely overrated. The real genius of the genre is Chris Cornell.

No, but I lived there when Alice in Chains were still just a local unsigned band playing in the clubs, but they were called "Alice-N-Chains" at the time. Don't ask me who the hell Alice is, but I guess she liked chains? LoL

Sure wish I had kept some of the flyers for those early shows.

I just love this "Presidents..." parody: :p

Put it on loop and crank it up. Blast the speakers out a window to piss off your neighbors. That's always fun. I did that one time with Inner Circle - Bad Boys, when the cops were right outside. It was funny.

That reminds me of this one time, it was 6:00am, and the people across the street had construction workers come and use their jackhammers. I was trying to sleep but these jackhammers kept me up. So I opened the window and did my impression of a 90 year old man yelling, "GET THE VIAGRA!". When they looked, I ducked.

Once had a bunch of 18-19 year old townies blasting their crappy music at 3AM in the parking lot outside. Dragged my speakers to the window and countered with this:

RmGwka23NJ4

They were gone by the end of the song.

A neighbor once put this song on repeat, cranked it up and left:

2aWVH_VaPSE

Marched down to the building's main fuse box and cut the power to his apartment.

And just so you know, if I have to choose between giving in to an annoying neighbor and burning his house down, I'm burning his house down. Surrender is never an option.

Person 1: "Greg, look you either have to apologize to the guy or destroy his house"
Me: "Ok, do you know any place that rents out military tanks for relatively cheap?"

Hahhaha! Me too. I did exactly the same thing. The fuse box was in the laundry room. I cut the power to the next door neighbor's house. Killed all her fish and spoiled her food. She was a bitch and deserved it. I also picked up about a 5 gallon bucket of her dog's **** out of the yard and dumped it on her front porch.:D

She called the cops! It was all they could do to keep from laughing.

Something that annoys the hell out of me even though it shouldn't...

When I hear this song on the radio I mention to a friend that it's 10,000 Maniacs. They often reply "No it isn't! It's Natalie Merchant. Who the hell is 10,000 Maniacs?"

*facepalm*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlCS-qf7yaM

With most bands, it's usually the other way around. They know the band name, but not the names of the artists in the band. For example. Chris Cornell on the radio, people will swear to me that it's Soundgarden, Audioslave, or Pearl Jam when it's "none of the above".

I miss Layne Stayley. How someone can be so vividly aware of what's happening to himself and where he's headed, yet so helpless and/or unwilling to stop it... Can't say anyone was surprised to hear the news of his passing. Only people that were surprised it didn't happen earlier. Been 11 years already. Seems like last week.

Only been to 10 concerts in my entire life. (only counting signed bands. Saw Alice in Chains several times in Seattle but they weren't signed back then and only known locally as "Alice-N-Chains") 7 of the 10 concerts I attended were the same band. Care to take a guess what band it was? Man I miss going to those. What a blast.

Why is it that so many bands I like have their frontman die on us? jeez He's probably the first heroin addict on the planet to die filthy rich after 30 years of addiction. For those that don't like this band know this: They're the most successful touring band in the history of music. They made more money on just concerts and toured longer than any other band ever. When Jerry died, his estate was worth hundreds of millions of dollars and he's just one member of the band.

I only got to see the Dead once before Jerry died, that was one awesome show.

Somewhat on topic, I finally got my HiFi system in the "man cave" set up to near perfection.

10 watts (Classic Marantz 2012 amplifier, fully restored with new transistors and capacitors) running the upper mids and tweeters, 80 watt mosfet pure DC amplifier running the low to mids (6 inch speakers) and a 300 watt monoblock pure dc Mosfet subwoofer amp connected to my 12 inch Alpine dual coil subwoofer in 2 ohm bridged mode.

Now when I play my old school art rock, the bass pedals shake the room.

Well, at the Eugene, OR venue it's usually a 2 or 3 day concert with about 250,000 deadheads camped out at U of O. Even if I didn't have a ticket to get into the concert I would still go. It's as much about living in a deadhead city and the fun times that go with that, as it is about the actual show.:D

Where else can you go to find fire eaters, bungee jumping, and naked midgets running around all in one place? lol

They actually still tour now and then. At least the did but as "the dead" or "the other ones" but they kept doing venues that were too damn far and out in the middle of nowhere so I didn't go.

yup they're still at it http://www.otherones.net/tour/
