This week I've been listening to 'The Script' a lot. They're a new Irish band, topping the UK album charts recently..... reminiscent of 'Keane' and 'Maroon 5'. Really rather good.
2 of my friends have just gone on tour with them!! so not inpressd!!! They never even introduced me  lol

I never heard of a single one of those groups.I must be getting old!
Nothing wrong with that:eek:
There has been mention of a lot of bands I've never heard of either.
Most of what I like, well the groups are either geriatric or getting there:eek:
Several years ago I went to a radio station to do some IT work and they were in the process of converting over to a satellite feed (goodbye to the real live DJ who took requests) and the management was heaving all the Cd's into the dumpster.
Resourceful me asked the boss, and wound up making 3 trips back and forth....
There is BOXES of Cd's out in my barn for lack of room in the house.
Of course all the ones I have ever heard of or liked are in my "stash" now, but that still leaves hundreds of cd's by "bubble gum" or "Junk" bands.
Use the cases, play frisbee with the discs.

Just thought I'd share some great lyrics with you.......:)
Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move,
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand,
Saying "If you see this girl, can you tell her where I am"?
Some try to hand me money they don't understand,
I'm not broke.... I'm just a broken hearted man.
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do,
How can I move on when I'm still in love with you?
'Cos if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this Earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.
So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.
Policeman says "Son, you can't stay here",
I said "There's someone I'm waiting for, if it's a day, a month, a year,
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows,
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.
People talk about the guy
Who's waiting on a girl...
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world...
And maybe I'll get famous as 'The Man Who Can't be Moved',
And maybe you won't mean to, but you'll see me on the news,
And you'll come running to the corner...
'Cos you'll know it's just for you.
I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved...
Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move.

For me there is almost nothing I will not listen to. My music choices often are depicted by my moods and whether or not I am suffering a Migraine. The only things I absolutely can not stand are Opera and Death Metal that is nothing but violent screeching to the point where you can not understand a word that is said, hence why I do not like Opera. I will listen to some of my sons' and husbands' Death Metal but only the songs that I can understand. By the same token I will listen to Country, Rap, Trance, Dance, R & B, Alternative, Pop, Rock, Hair Bands, Oldies, Classical.....etc.

I have Black Ice too, I really like it but not as much as the new Metalica album Death Magnetic there isn't a song on it that I don't like, I wasn't sure if I liked it as much as their old stuff the first time I listened to it but man has it grown on me the more I listen the more I like it, also been listening to my newest album Only by the Night by Kings of Leon, it's not metal but I really like it, also dug out some old Doken and Ozzie last weekend. Ozzie, Metalica, Megadeath, and Old Van Halen are some of my all time favs, but pretty much anything from the 80's, metal or otherwise will do.

I stopped listening when Load came out  everything I've heard from Death Magnetic sounds like another pile of load to me :p. They should have quit years ago ... personally I think most bands should quit at the 5th album .... there are very few bands indeed that can truly keep the fire going after this and avoid attaining repetitive boredom or progressing in a direction that alienates from their roots.

I haven't listened to Death Magnetic, but to be honest, I don't have any desire to do it, either. They actually said the same thing about St. Anger, that it was "like their old stuff". The old stuff being, to me at least, Kill 'Em All through ...And Justice For All. In my humble opinion, they started circling the drain with their 1991 album. Then came Load and ReLoad, which sounded more like country than metal. ;)

there are only very rare exceptions from that rule - they're the few artists that are sort of Picassos of music - the do something different when they've played out a phase of their creative development, rather than persistently trying to recapture something that was hot when they were just catching the spark

That´s correct. Not the best and not the worst album.
But Metallica won´t bring out better Albums than MAster of puppets ( the best they have) Ride the lightning, Kill em all and ...and justice for all.
4 different sounds but real thrash, not al singalong like load and reload:rolleyes:
I will stay at the wacken open air this year again. There are a lot of good bands.
Amon Amarth
Heaven & Hell ( Black Sabbath without Ozzy but with Ronny JAmes Dio )
In Flames
Motörhead

Testament

I have a pretty eclectic collection of music. I like classic rock. In high school I liked Alan Parsons and Styx. If I'm in a really strange mood I turn on some old Ozzy and Metallica. I guess I've mellowed in my age and taken a completely different turn in music. I was raised on Irish and Celtic music so now I like things like Enya and Loreena Mckennit. I also like filk so Heather Alexander and Julia Ecklar. I recently have become a fan of this Celtic band with a strong rock undertones called Coyote Run. ( They have this little, red-haired spitfire of a drummer and she idolizes Neil Peart. She can really tear up a drum solo! )They play a lot of the Ren Faires around here and put on a great show. I also LOVE Nightwish. I'm not sure how you'd describe them!

But, back to ROCK! One of favorite bands/tracks of the 90's, and of the past 30 years. This is in my top 5 of all time: (besides Pink Floyd, this has the best solo ever to me!) I guess it has special meaning for me. I watched a friend who was like a brother kill himself slowly after I turned myself the other direction. He "kept going" and met an early end. The song's lyrics say it all. RIP my friend, my 'brother' Andrew Weber. 1970-1994. Another victim of the meth epidemic. He had a big heart full of big pain. In the end, his heart couldn't take it.:(

Don, gotta love the old Ratt. I swear we have almost the exact same taste in music. I bet if we took our CD collections and wanted to do some swapping there wouldn't be much swapping to do, cause it would be "hey man you wanna trade this one, nah I got that one already and why would you want to get rid of that?" lol:D
Richard the Skid Row rules too, and I agree with you, what they are calling metal these days isn't even recognizable as music, just crappy speed guitar and someone yelling at you, God only knows what the hell the words are or why they are so pissed off, my guess would be no lovin'. If I want to get yelled at I can go to work and piss off my boss, but I wouldn't call that music to my ears, or entertainment....then again:D ohhhhhh now I get it....no no actually I don't not really. I like screaming guitars with a melody, and singers who sing with a purpose and tell a story or make a point about life and have talent and can actually sing way better than the average pissed off drunk guy at closing time.

No doubt about it!! Huge fan of Skid Row myself!!! I have a ton of stuff on my IPhone....plus a crate of cd's!! I pretty much have every Motley Crue cd! oh, and all of Poison's cd's

Anyone have a band they CAN'T listen to because of...oh I dunno....maybe a bad relationship?? Mine is Rush. Nothing whatsoever wrong with the band. But my ex-husband used to listen to them 24/7. There was no other music worth listening to unless it was Rush. I put up with this ( among other things! )for 7 years before I made a break for freedom. Now, I'm sorry but I just can't stand them. Too many negative emotions associated with the group.

Excellent Don!!! You got all the ones you guessed right
I didn't really expect you to get Crazytown or Gnarls Barkley they are not 80's just catchy toons from more recent that I like, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttt I can't believe you didn't know Fastway thats old school 80s and believe my they rock, and the guitar work is awesome, look them up and I bet you will remember them, guitar by former Motorhead guitarist "Fast Eddie Clark". Also do you remember the band Badlands? they weren't really that well known or long lived but Jakie Lee could play, check them out, there big one hit wonder was "Dreams in the Dark" got a lot of air time on MTV back in the day. Both bands also have band member ties to OZZY. By the way OZZY RULES, lol :D

Yeah Im not a fan at all of Gnarles Barkley either, I listened to his album once at Barnes and Noble, its sucked, but for some odd reason I like that song "Crazy" :D
I remember Enuff Z nuff, they were bordering a little on the "Glam" side, lol, they had some cool videos, with hot chicks.
they also had Jakie Lee for a bit, former Ozzy and Bandlands guitarist. Which reminds me I like a few Black Sabbath tunes but that is a bit before my time really, kinda like Led Zepplin, like em but wasn't current back in our day.
Actually Don you did sort of miss one of my song's, Pantera is "Coyboys From Hell" although I do really like "Cemetary Gates" equally well

Those two bands are probably my top two bands if I feel like getting seriously pumped up, Priest is especially awesome to work out to, pure energy and POWER from those two bands. If you feel like being mellow don't listen to either of those two bands.
You take a mortal man and put him in control, watch him become a God, Watch peoples heads a'roll
What do you mean I hurt you're feelings?
I didn't know you had any feelings?

Back in the 90's Queensryche was on tour supporting the "Empire" LP, the show was so outstanding I went to 5 others after the first.
The opening act (i forget now who it was) sucked so bad, that by show number 2 we had it down pat when to enter the arena late, just in time to miss the opening act, and right at the start of intermission.
Worked out great, avoid the rush getting in, park closest to the exit, and the encore to every show was "silent lucidity" so we would duck out during the final song of the encore, beating the rush to leave too.

And of course, one of my favorite classic chains songs:

the friends are Albert King, Gladys Knight, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Etta James, Billy Ocean, Eric Clapton, Dr John, Chaka Khan, and Phil Collins doing the lamest drum solo in the history of drumming
not all of it is blistering, but some of it very much so
couldn't find out for sure when or where this concert took place, but it had to be some time between August of '84 and May '87

I know, it so weird, but it's true - Phil Collins sucks on this one
Jeff and I were looking at each other going "what the . . . "
made me wonder why he was even there - I mean he's not a blues musician by any stretch
he didn't look entirely happy either; like he was wondering himself
Chaka Khan was so messed up, she could barely sing, and definitely not anything with words in the lyrics
the guitar stuff and the other two ladies carried the show
infernalis
07-08-2010, 04:48 AM
Phil did do some great drumming with Eric Clapton once upon a time, more of a "rock/blues fusion"
drache
07-08-2010, 05:09 AM
I'm not sure how much of this had to do with his drumming and how much with back-stage relations, but the blues at this concert didn't have a trace of fusion, and if you ever see it, you'll also go "wtf is Phil even doing there" and a look at his face might tell you that that's pretty much what he must be thinking also

I have always been impressed by how they both have their eyes closed and they sound like one drummer that has 4 arms and 4 legs.

Always loved that song. ^^^ Still do. I was in Serra High school (Tierrasanta, San Diego, CA) in Southern California when it was new, ( near Miramar Naval Air Station "Fightertown, USA") and just 18 years old. Very nostalgic.:D

That's when I found my first, and only wild checkered garter snake, in the Picacho State Recreation area east of San Diego, near the Arizona border.;)
If you ever get a chance to herp near San Diego, I would highly recommend the east shore of Otay Lake or the north shore along Otay lakes road. AWESOME!
As if 7 foot gopher snakes and tame rattlesnakes wasn't enough, you can watch very large and fast lizards run in herds, from bush to bush, like in the movie "Jurassic park" I'm not kidding.

That band has earned its place in my music library thanks to you, Richard ;)
I like most rock and metal, old stuff, hard rock, heavy metal, etc... I like most other types of music, but rock/metal the most :D
My most favorite band right now would have to be Metallica, though.

Metallica has it's place in my life timeline. Hated their guts when I first heard them. (when they were just getting started) I just can't stand "cobra commander" vocals and "death metal" rhythm. However, they really matured later and I do like some of their music such as...
"Nothing else matters":
bAsA00-5KoI
"One"
EzgGTTtR0kc
"Enter Sandman" is about the "hardest" most metal like song I can tolerate by them:
1QP-SIW6iKY
My brother and I worked as security right up against the stage at a recent Seattle, WA concert for metallica. Seriously. I'll have to dig up the videos.. it shows us both, standing right there by the stage just a cpuple of years ago. They still got it! Still put on a fantastic performance!
I actually personally know the guy at 2:35 in that last video "enter sandman" just a fan, and a friend.

Those are actually my favourite songs from Metallica ;) I like a few of their older albums too. Another song I like is Die, Die my darling. Which is, if I remember correctly, is a cover. I prefer Metallica's version over the others I've heard.

I probably like it more cause its heavier, and being with my boyfriend... He likes extremely heavy metal so I'm more used to it.

Die, Die my Darling was originally done by the Misfits, one of the best bands to come from the 80's punk scene. Glen Danzig's vocals are so awesome, you should give it another listen you may eventually like the original.

Speaking of Metallica, I am about the opposite of you, I LOVE the old stuff, Kill 'Em All is a masterpiece. Although I do believe Justice is the best albumn, but after that they have gone down so much. I did go see them last year and yes they still put on a great show, just would enjoy hearing all the oldies like The Four Horsemen, Motorbreath, Whiplash, ect.
