Sammy is going into shed - I'm pretty sure
I haven't seen her blue-eyed, but she's totally krinkely
when she came out of brumation, I found that she has some old shed on her neck, that I must have missed
she's been having difficult sheds since her surgery
so I just wet-bagged her
I'm not entirely certain that she'd ready to shed, but I'm willing to see . . .
I'd really like it to happen - she's been looking like a dry old battle ax for a while now

It's probably not 'preemptive', Rhea... if she looks 'crinkly' the slough has probably been missed, and needs to come off.

Good luck, Rhea. Hope Sammy emerges from the bag all bright & shiny for you!!!

Yeh, it's sounding like that's a good idea. Even if she's not ready to shed, bagging her ahead of time won't really hurt her at all.

It might annoy the heck out of her tho... LOL :-)

it has been annoying her a bit
I didn't leave her in the bag as long as I planned, but I've decided to wet-bag her at least once a day until she sheds - I figure it'll make things easier
I'm concerned that the old retained shed on her neck will complicate the next shed
I also got this stuff called "shed away" and I'm rubbing it into the areas I'm worried about
she seems to enjoy the attention

I like the Shed Away... it's helped the balls and Miriam when they were having rough sheds. I think the aloe and Vit E really helps their skin.

okay I am sorry to sound like a n00b here, but what the heck is a wet bag???? similar to what i do by soaking them in a chinese take out container i would suppose? I don't really ever see bad sheds here, so i'm not familiar with this wet bagging stuff... lol!

Wet bagging is the soaking of a pillowcase or some other form of snake bag, in plain water. Then you place the snake in the bag overnight.

My house has humidity problems in the winter, so I wet bag my babies from time to time when they are ready to shed. I use an athetic sock, and close the top with a large rubber band.

I tried to use a wet bag once, made from an old worn-out bed sheet. The damn thing broke right through it during the night. :D And it wasn't even at the seam.

I use the rough cotton bags my supplier ships the supers in and some "real" snake bags for the bigger snakes
I don't usually wet-bag over night because I'm worried about the temps getting too low
I like putting the wet bag with the snake in it in a bowl that has a little bit of warm water at the bottom and I expose part of the bowl to a little heat
I monitor a lot because I want the temps to be in a decent range and I want to make sure the bag doesn't dry out
I don't get bad sheds very often, but more often during the colder seasons

Sammy started having a blueish cast to her eyes yesterday
I'll see if I can find the time to take some photos today
she looks amazingly cruddy

at that point I needed to step in and help pick shed out of that groove where the stitches are, but once I did that, she did the rest by herself
