lol that is your typical red tailed boa. Because teh person used a flash when the snake is on a yellow background already under a bright light... it made him look purple :D

If you want a purple snake, look into a motley lined ghost/lavender corn snake. THAT'S purple.

I don't know . . .
once genetic modification makes it into the herp field, we could expect critters like that and worse
at that point you quit decorating your viv with twigs and rocks, and resort to action figures, barbie sets, stuff you picked up at disney world, and comic strip backgrounds
that gives me ideas now . . .

Lori P

LOL Rhea.. I agree, I wouldn't want any genetically modified critters out there as pets (remember the glowing fish a while back? And didn't they just make some glowing pigs? Weird... wrong...lol). However, if through natural selection a blueberry colored snake emerged, tooo cooool... :-)

Isn't there a fish out there that they inject dye into... a barb maybe... I've seen pink ones and blue ones. Talk about making a living being into a play toy!

Glowing frogs, too as well as ones that are see-through. They're doing that over in Japan.

Is the pink one you're thinking of a bubblegum corn?

Or maybe an Opal

There are so many variations of colors in corns these days, it's wild.

there's "painted glass fish" and yes - they're dyed
the glow zebra danios, that were a gm project, actually have a job: something happens with their colour when the water quality descends below acceptable thresholds

Lol well if you use them, you know I wanna see pics! I've got a model of a F4 Corsair plane I built when I was a kid. My cats knocked it off the shelf and broke one of the wings off and I've been thinking it'd be cool to do a jungle looking viv and have that be wreckage, lol.

I think I remember somebody making a snake viv with an urban theme. Stuff like milk cartons and newspapers as hides and decorations etc. Clean of course, but man-made objects only.

Everytime I'm at the dollar store looking for greenery and baskets and such, I look through the toy isle... but so far nothing ahs really jumped out at me. I think it would be fun to set up a tank like that. Have you seen the little novelty fish tank they sell that looks like an office? File cabinets, desk, chair, etc... it's cute. But of course, not practical to clean. But the idea is cute...

I think that would be the biggest challenge -- cleaning. Especially if you have all kinds of small knick-knacks and figures. It may get too annoying to keep up with after a while.

I think it'd be ok for a spider too, but it'd have to have some burrowing substrate... maybe that purple paper stuff! Lol.

the blue rocks are making that snake appearing pinker than he actually is. thats why they took a picture of him on blue rocks :)

also, I saw how someone mention dye injected fish, the most common ones are white tetras. They either paint them, inject them, or soak them in a dye solution. while it is harmless to the fish, the whole process tends to be very stressful on them and they often become ill with ick or fin rot and die a premature death. Other common dye injected fishes are glass fish and honey gouramis.

That was a photoshopped corn snake.
They normally are a reddish brown and orange color not blue.
