I'm wondering . . .
the honeymoon accommodations . . .
is it better to aim for spacious or intimate?
I was going to give them a 36"x18" tank

Rhea, I've had success this year putting pairs in 20 gal long tanks 30 inch x 12 inch.

the 36"x18" would be their usual
I was thinking of going for the 20G long, so they find each other faster
but I don't suppose that's necessary

well, whatever I gave them . . .
he only arrived a couple of hours ago and I think they're getting acquainted

I have butterflies

of course I realize - they may just be congregating where it's warm and nothing may ever happen

EdgyExoticReptiles

did that happen as soon as u put the male in? it sure looks like they are mating

not as soon as, but soon after
so far I've not observed any genital contact, or "dragging her man all over the viv" sort of thing, but unless they got tired of that spot at the same time and decided the one they're hanging out in now is better at the same time, I would venture to guess that at least they like one another's company

I don't doubt what's been happening - not that I can see any detail - can you?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2334/2213119664_060a383d6e_b.jpg

particularly with all the spasming he's been doing
and they're still at it

I've never watched snake sex
she seems very unfazed - is that normal?

adamanteus
01-22-2008, 04:20 PM
Yeah, it seems she allows it, rather than takes much of an active role.

Sid

Congratulation, Rhea!

adamanteus

My marcianus have been 'fooling around' for a while now. I'm not sure that they've actually coupled yet though, he's a bit of a novice, bless him!:) Looks good for you though, Rhea. Congratulations.

I know - my head's spinning
thanks

how long did u brumate them for?

he - I'm not sure, since I just got him today, but I think at least a month
she - less than a month
even though she's in really good shape, she did have surgery last summer, and I didn't want to have her in brumation long. I do know that she got thoroughly cooled down and from what I've read and heard, that ought to do the trick

I'm pretty happy right now
they look nice together, don't you think?

They look great! Very nice pic!

drache

I don't know about the red
it'd be nice to have some babies with that
and also Sammy's greenish tones - I'd love to see those pop up in her babies
Sammy is het melanistic from a melanistic bred to a double het snow-66% possible
het snow/albino
Boyfriend, her mate is decended from a het leucistic (flame x leucistic) being bred to a double het melanistic x erythristic cross
I suspect I'll end up with a variety of normals and there's a small remote chance of perhaps a melanistic baby

drache
01-23-2008, 12:39 PM
okay
they're at it again
is that normal?

Stefan-A
01-23-2008, 12:41 PM
Are they hooked up, or is the male just courting? It's normal either way.

It's hard to see because they're so intertwined
he's got spasms running through him
yesterday it seemed more rhythmic though
looking at this photo I just took, I think they're not hooked up

I really must get new glasses

Something like this?

YouTube - Parietalis couple getting friendly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhwFRZjpOhw)

That's the male trying to get the female in the mood. They aren't really mating. When you see the female dragging the male around the terrarium, then you know it's happening for real. ;)

drache
01-23-2008, 01:06 PM
yup
just like that

LOL...congrats Rhea. Yeh, it was the same with my L.m.thayeri, I was all worried about doing things just right and as soon as they were together they went at it. Here's to some nice babies come spring then.:D

And those are some really good pics!!:)

thanks
I do hope they're not just "getting friendly"
does that ever happen?
I mean, it looks like she kind of likes him too - she's not slithering away or eating him
so I would assume they're going to progress to the "dragging around the viv" stage
or maybe she's not the dragging type and it already happened?

Stefan-A

I don't think they really like each other, the female just puts up with it. Here, the female would sometimes dash across the terrarium whipping her tail when it became too annoying. The mating itself takes about 15 minutes, it's easy to miss.

I didn't mean "like" in the sense it's used among humans (mental)
she does seem to be a little friendlier than just putting up with him
when she comes back from the water bowl she smells him and rubs her chin on his neck before she settles down

this morning when the light went on and Sammy came out to bask, she looked awfully fat
I said "look at how fat she is"
Mikhaila said "she's pregnant!"
I said "that wouldn't show just yet, but maybe she ate boyfriend"
she really does look that fat, but thankfully he showed up
she looks like she is headed into shed

I have forgotten... which species is Sammy?

drache
01-26-2008, 01:06 PM
she's an Eastern (after many mistaken identities)
