Hi Max, and welcome to the forum.:)
The reason you were unable to post in the Sale/Trade/Wanted section is because that forum is now closed to new posts. We now have our Classifieds section (top right hand tab), although, as a new member, it may block your first couple of posts. It's part of our anti-spam defences.

We have quite a few members in the UK who have San Fran Garters, myself included, although only a few breeders are offering them for sale. Later in the year there will certainly be specimens available, but you might be wise to reserve them now!

Hi Max! You found us then? It was me who linked you to this lovely forum.
Warm welcome from me, too. ;)

Hope you'll get your SFs, as James said, you'd be wise to reserve them.
So James, are you planning on breeding already? Mine are still so dinky themselves it will be ages yet before they're ready.

Alas, it won't be this year, Esther. But in 2009, who knows?:D This year I expect to breed only marcianus and radix.

wow, thanks for the big welcom guys! I feel abit guilty being here yet not owning any garter snakes! its strange 10 years ago, the local shops used to be full of them, and now I only really see them once or twice a year

I retired an old female san fran in her last year after a shop closed, sadly she had skin ulcers/tumours, which I guess is common with the small gene pool, but despite them she was very active and ate like a trooper.

When they are available, have you guy got any idea on the prices they tend to go for?

thanks guys :)

Kuno, they do seem to be much more expensive in the UK.

to be honest for such a rare, endangered and attractive snake that's no money at all!

A lot of people from the Netherlands breed them. Try for example: Gijs & Sabine, Kuno (Jeweldragons). But don't know if you're able to go to them...

I think some from the UK will soon start breeding them to :)

can you even bring animals into Ireland without months of quarantine?

adamanteus
01-29-2008, 12:45 PM
There are no quarantine regulations for reptiles in the UK.... only mammals and birds.
Alan Francis and Chloe are both already breeding tetrataenia in the UK.

yay
neither the law nor St Pat can keep the snakes out of Ireland then

Peter, Chloe (on this forum) would be the person to give you a price, she bred them last year and should do so again this year. I got mine from the Netherlands.

You're not so isolated in Ireland... now Stefan, up there in the frozen north... he's isolated!:D
