hello,

I was wondering what I whould get if i would breed 1.1 thamnophis radix het. axantic together?
and what I would get if i would breed 1thamnophis radix het. axantic to a normal radix?

hope you understand:D

jerom.

this is my understanding:
in both cases you may end up with some axanthics
in the first case, I think your chances would be 50%
in the second 25%
those are the statistical chances
your real numbers will likely be different

EdgyExoticReptiles
01-17-2008, 09:02 AM
two hets will make 25% axanthic and the rest will be 100% het for axantic and i think the second one would be 50% hets

thank you both!
so the second one wil be poss. het axanthic

but axanthic is a co-dominant gen. whouldn'd that make is hom. fox axanthic?

EdgyExoticReptiles
01-17-2008, 11:47 AM
lol co-dominant? if i knew what that was i could probaly figure it out, i know that a normal morph those would be the babies

thank you both!
so the second one wil be poss. het axanthic

but axanthic is a co-dominant gen. whouldn'd that make is hom. fox axanthic?

jompiej
01-17-2008, 12:01 PM
no, i have it now.
if I breed het. axantic X het. axanthic I would get 25% axanthic 25% normal
and 50 % het. axanthic.
if I breed a het. axanthic to a normal animal I would get 25% het. axanthic and the rest are normal animals.

co-dominant meens that 2 genes are both dominant, and then the young have both collors.

for instance:
you have 1 red flower en 1 white flower, when you ''breed'' them, you get a pink flower.

sorry for the bad english, it's difficult to explain :D

drache
01-17-2008, 12:31 PM
that sounds much better than what I came up with

EdgyExoticReptiles
01-17-2008, 12:33 PM
lol oh its like the snow morph?

jompiej
01-17-2008, 12:38 PM
no idea if snow is co-dominant, I'm not really into morphs (yet):p

reptileparadise
01-17-2008, 12:45 PM
Indeed, Co-dominant is like the snow morph (in leopardgeckos that is...)
Co-dominant means that animals can be visual carriers of a gene, without having both alleles.
Ussually, there is a super form (like in leopardgeckos again, the 'supersnow')
If you breed two co- dominant animals together, you will get 25% 'superform' 50 % co-dom en 25 % normals. Just like in the recessive business. Just a bit different.

What Jerom is talking about, white flower X red flower = orange flower is incomplete dominance.

jompiej
01-17-2008, 12:47 PM
sjoerd, white flowe X red flower is orange flower, think you meen pink :p

reptileparadise

These might help:

Punnett Square Calculator (http://www.changbioscience.com/genetics/punnett.html)

Mick's Cornsnake Progeny Predictor Program - Download Page (http://home.comcast.net/~spencer62/cornprog.html)

I don't think that cornsnakes have the same morphs and stuff as thamnophis.

thanks for the afford tho!

That first link should do the trick then, for anyone like me who's rusty on Punnett squares, lol ;)

EdgyExoticReptiles
01-17-2008, 01:50 PM
i can do punnet squares very well but how would i set it up for like a het? say i have a male albino would that be AA for the punnet square? and what would a female het for albino look like?? thanks,
Reed

aSnakeLovinBabe
01-17-2008, 05:54 PM
If you have a male albino, His alleles would be "aa" where "A" would be the normal looking phenotype and "a" is the albino phenotype. Phenotype means what they physically look like. Since albino is a recessive gene, you would technically want to use the lowercase letter for that allele.

aSnakeLovinBabe
01-17-2008, 06:02 PM
Say you have a het axanthic snake. His punnet label would look like this: Aa. That shows that he is carrying one allele for each color form, but since the normal color is dominant, that is the one that he displays. to help you, I drew a quick punnet showing what would THEORETICALLY happen if you cross two hets. You can get more or less axanthics in your litter, or even none at all. The ones that look normal will be possible hets.

Nice work, Shannon. You might want to add that to our genetics section in the articles forum. The articles are in Wiki format so any member can add to or edit the information in there.

thanks now that i can set it up right i can see what any snake is what happens if its tripple or double het?

What will I get if I breed, for example, 0.1 T. radix 100% het axantic + 1.0 T. radix 100% het red albino? :)

reptileparadise
01-20-2008, 01:37 PM
You will get radix possible het axantic possible het red albino.

Has there ever been a hypoerythristic red-sided garter?

reptileparadise
01-20-2008, 01:48 PM
lets see...hypo erythristic...Well, I guess that there are many of those. In nature, a lot of red sides dont have much red on their sides at all. If you really mean something genetic, you might want to have a look at scott felzers website, there's a 'collorles redsided'

Stefan-A
01-20-2008, 01:53 PM
I guess it would have the patterns of the normal red-sided, but lack some the red pigmentation. I don't mean the ones that just don't have much of a pattern to begin with.

The colourless red-sided garters definitely come to mind, but I wondered if there was a morph that was actually widely called hypoerythristic.

Serpentine99
01-20-2008, 08:15 PM
just a quick question/personal opinion, why would want to take the red out of them in the first place, i mean besides a few tiny pysical features you would have the same thing if you just got a sirtalis sirtalis, and it would probably be cheaper too. again just a question/personal opinion.:)

ssssnakeluvr
01-20-2008, 10:08 PM
the colorless wasn't created....itwas a baby from a wild caught snake i caught in Kansas. it never colored up. will be interesting to cross with other color variations of red siders.

It would be a matter of personal preference and a hypoerythristic / anerythristic red-sided would hardly be the same as an eastern.

Okay, didn't expect that one. :D The anery red-sided garters I've seen up until this point have been more grey than blue.

I love! anery red sideds...I think they might be one of the best looking morphs I have seen so far...

To be honest Sjoerd, I think your red-sideds are the best looking I've seen. That's why I've reserved my 1.2 from you this year! Don't forget.... pick of the litter!:D

I just pm'd Don and am heading for Scott's site... MUST have purple snakes, MUST!!! LOL!!! HOW have I gone this long and never seen that???

EdgyExoticReptiles
01-21-2008, 05:59 PM
loll i think its because a lot of anerys are grey-blue and not blue-purple, Don just has a very good specimen

sorry should have been more specific, this is the colorless red-sided photo i was talking about, now that i look at it it looks more like a radix, but wouldn't a radix still be cheaper than buying this red-sided morph?
PS: Don, great lookin snake, that one is definetly worth paying the extra bucks for.:)

It used to be. Trimeresurus got chopped up. In 2004, I believe.

Trimeresurus got chopped up.

It did? I really need to keep up to speed with taxonomic changes. So what is T. purpureomaculatus called now? Have they messed with T. popeorum and T. albolabris too?

Stefan-A
01-22-2008, 03:28 AM
Cryptelytrops, at least for albolabris and purpureomaculatus. I don't know about the rest.

edit: it seems that popeorum got its own genus, Popeia.

adamanteus

They did the same to Bothrops without telling me! The arboreal species are now Bothriopsis or Bothriechis.

Hi :) I have a 100% het axanthic radix and lately I've been noticed that her stomach and side-stripes have became very greenish. Is this because of her hidden genes or is this typical even with normal radix?

I don't think that cornsnakes have the same morphs and stuff as thamnophis.

thanks for the afford tho!
you can get a lot of colour morphs in corn snakes and breeders are always trying to come up with something new, i for one have never been interested in breeding them but ive seen some beautiful examples :)

My opinion.... man-made morphs are poo. No matter how hard we try, or how clever we think we are, we will never match the beauty of nature.

Strictly speaking there are no man-made morphs. ;) Yet. Within 5-10 years there will probably be. GloFish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GloFish)

But I agree, many morphs are pretty damn ugly.

*Cough.* Easterns. *Cough.*
Yes, easterns, are also more beautiful.
