Safe paints and waterproofing agents?

Here's one to watch...

SILICONE SEALER that is manufactured for construction will sometimes contain ARSENIC. :eek: The arsenic is used for prevention of mold and mildew in bathrooms.

Aquarium sealer manufacturers do not include arsenic.;)

It's amazing what gets put into some of these things ... always makes you think ... what next?!?

I also want to add that if you have an old aquarium (and I do mean old, 20+ years), chances are that they are built using silicone that also contains substances that are toxic. Although that's primarily a problem if you are keeping rodents in them.

Would water based paints be safe?

Water based paint would be fine. I would seal that with clear polyurathane. Let it set for two or three days to completely cure and you're OK
