What do you want for the holidays? I need ideas too, I really have no clue what a thirteen year old could want besides a PS3 (which has already been turned down by my dad).

Maybe a 13 year old would like a 29 gallon aquarium (terrarium)?

Or another gartersnake?

A twenty nine gallon aquariums sounds good. Another gartersnake though, while I would gladly say yes if I knew my dad would also, is out of the question. I guess I'll just wait until time takes it's toll on my other pets, then maybe get another snake if my mom can handle it.

You know your mom is going to have a cow if you breed your garter, and it has about 30 little ones, right?

30 young snakes, that would be a nice holiday gift................ for your mom :D

Well it's not like I would tell them that there's going to be any chance of having baby snakes. I would just beg them for another, keep it in the same cage, leave the lights off a few times, and hope they make some babies. Even if they didn't it would be nice to have a garter that didn't run away from me every time I stick my hand in there, then musk while flinging it's tail when I grab it.

Try the bathtub trick, and make sure your not trying to hold it still. It should be able to move from hand to hand, as if you're pulling a rope toward you. The bathtub trick will work, but you should clean the tub with clorox bleach after you do it.

We do have a bathtub that we aren't using right now and I have tried this, but took a long time. I picked it up every thirty seconds and it was almost as active for the entire time as it was when I started. Plus it still musked on me. I also tried washing my hands more thoroughly beforehand to get the Jack Russell smell off and that didn't really work either.

Your snake seems to have a real wild streak. Give it a longer swim to tire it out before you offer it your hand. Remember to let it come to you when it gets tired. Don't actively try to grab it. Make sure the water isn't too warm (about 90F or so), and make sure the water is deep enough that it has to swim all the time. It may take a couple of trials, but it'll work if you stick with it.

Since your snake is such a "problem child" you might also try just sticking your hand in its pen once in a while. Don't even touch the snake; just get your scent in there, so it gets more used to you.

I am going to Petco right now and getting a more natural bedding for it but I will try that after it gets set up again.

We can talk about this in another thread. I posted about this in "Enclosure Pictures" under enclosures.
