Hi!
We are happy to announce that we have two garters snakes that were brought to us by Santa and his reindeer! Their names are Rambo and Sweet Pea - although we really don't know if they are boys or girls!
Anyway, we were told to feed them live feeder fish. After doing some research we learned that the fish may not be the best food for them. Any thoughts??
Thank you!

Fish can be used as a diet, but a variety of fish, appropriately sized mice, and maybe a worm every now and then would be better for them. If you do feed fish, make sure that it is a safe kind, like rosy reds or other fish that do not contain thaimanise. Never feed goldfish if you can help it.

Hi Jen, and welcome to the forum.:)
Fish is a good staple diet, but most people supplement that with pinky mice. You certainly need to avoid goldfish as they contain a toxic enzyme called thiaminase. Perhaps the best (and a cheaper option) is to use fish for human consumption, such as trout or salmon, cut into suitably sized strips.

Welcome :) I use trout fillets and pinkies chopped and mixed together.
Welcome to the forum, Jen. Congratulations on the Garters. Much to my wife's dismay, one of my son's gave me a pair of corn snakes this year.
