You have your big meal tonight? We used to have potato salad, "Seidenwuerstchen" und "Butterbrot" on Christmas eve, then went to the evening service and had "Bescherung" afterwards. The big meal we'd have on Christmas day. Actually, I don't know why I'm talking in the past, we still do that, apart from the food on Christmas eve, we just tend to have something simple.

thanks for the christmas cheer, Esther
it's always a bit sad for me, because I'm still attached to how magical and meaningful it was when I was a child
I don't seem to be able to recreate that on my own
so now it's all about the food - tomorrow
that goose, stuffed with apples and chestnuts, is the one thing left - even the side dishes are different
you did give me a little flavour of the spirit though
thanks
and cheers to you all

I'm all done now. Just ran down to the car wash and bought a gift card!

Actually, thats what my family is doing this year- each person brings a 25$ gift card, and we are supposed to play some sort of game to exchange them. woo-hoo. My wife is "out of the picture:(" right now, so I guess I am done.

this was the best christmas since my childhood
I got to be super woman for the day
I made the goose with the chestnut and apple stuffing, separate stuffing for the veggie people, salad, garlic smashed potatoes, ginger baked squash, apple crisp and more
(I also washed Mikhaila's hair and all our bedding)
and I never broke a sweat or even felt stressed
the cats and the dog got along, as well as the humans
I wish that all of yours was as least as good

I'm thinking of heading home for the sofa myself... the sofa, a steaming cup of coffee, a good book, and several doggies piled on me... yep, sounds better than staying here in this drafty old barn we call an office!!!

I'm actually having a holiday dinner at my house tomorrow. After running around in so many directions it's the first day I could get my own immediate group together at the same time!! It should be interesting-- my nephew is very into attacking poor hapless Christmas trees this year!!:D
