You have a good collection of snakes. I have had a few pythons, the last one I had was a carpet python that I donated to a zoo, after I had him for six years. I decided that I am not going to mess with big snakes anymore and garters just seem perfect for me.

hello ... it has been a long time... sorry:( .....
a lot has happen since the last time i was here.
I have made my room in the cellar, and i now has 12 snakes. Among them is 5 Thamnophis.. 2 sirtalis parietalis ( red sided ) and 3 sirtalis sirtalis ( Florida blue ). I have decided to start with the most common spices, and wait until next spring before i will buy my dream snakes.. San Francisco and concinnus.
greetings from Hedegaard

Cool Hej! I am new here and I just am getting back intothe hobby. I have a trio of Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus babys so far. Congratulations on your collection. Sounds beautiful.

Fine species you have, Jens.
I think it is wise to start with the "easier" species. You can learn a lot of them and then you are better prepared for the other subspecies.
By the way, they are not more difficult then the ones you have, but more expensive.

Out of curiosity, what does a concinnus, tetrataenia, or even sirtalis sirtalis cost in Europe? T.s. concinnus is frequently sold for about $40-50 here (sometimes more and sometimes less), and a Florida blue often sells for about $25. Of course, we can't buy or sell tetrataenia here in the U.S.

From concinnus I do not know exactly, but I thought I saw them on the expo in Houten for about € 50,00
T. sirtalis tetrataenia is mostly sold (few months old) for € 80,00 till € 125,00.
€ 1,00 = $ 1,25

Those prices really make ours seem cheap (not to rub it in). Is it feasible to buy them over here in the U.S. and have them shipped to the Netherlands?

For concinus this is probably possible, but for tetrataenia not.
But why should you do so. There are enough concinnus in Europe, I presume. ANd if not, breeders would breed some more.

At the prices you suggest, one might wish to buy cheaper snakes and to diversify the gene pool with new "American" snakes.

It would be nice if some T. sirtalis tetrataenia would be exchanged with American, unrelated specimen.
I guess that this will happen in a few years or so.
