Here is a pic that shows the size difference between these two. Miriam is just so tiny, and is not an aggressive feeder. Think she's ok???

And here's a recent pic of Mordecai. He is SUCH a stud muffin. LOL

I have a similar size difference between my red-phase pickeringii. The female is tiny and an infrequent feeder, while the male is always willing to eat. I keep them together but keep a close eye on things at meal times. I'm hoping in time she will 'snap out of it' and start eating regularly.

They are lovely:)
Both look very nice and both look healthy, Lori. I wouldn't worry as this is not uncommon.

Thanks everyone. Sid, glad to hear it's not uncommon; that's basically what I was wondering. James, do they normally snap out of it or think she'll always be like this? She seems so frail to me, poor girl!!
I do feed Mordecai seperately, as he is just such an agressive feeder, and as he gets bigger I worry. OH-- that's the other question-- I do hope they can keep living together?? Even if he gets much bigger?? They have always been together... surely he knows she is not a meal??

This is my first time with pickeringii, but I've had other species in the past which would suddenly start eating after a slow start. I hope the same will be true of the Pugets..... My female also appears very frail.

Are females usually smaller than the males?

females become a little longer than males, but you have to take tree males to get the weight of a female too.:D
A little bit clearer: females grow biggggger when a they become adult!

Very nice snakes, Lori.
You can keep them together, but watch them carefully at feeding time. Also if 1 eats about everything of the other one, it might be better to seperate them untill they are both eating well. But like James said, they can suddenly start eating like there's no tomorrow :)

Thanks everyone! I'll keep seperating them at feeding time for sure. She is so hard to figure out, too... at the beginning she would ONLY eat live minnows and guppies, hunted out of the bowl; and then she started grabbing pinky parts put into the bowl with them. Then, she stopped hunting in the bowl and would just watch the fish, so I started leaving bits of salmon and pinkies next to the bowl with the fish, and last week she took a bit of salmon for the first time. This week, she watched the fish, she crawled thru the salmon and pinkies several times, but never ate. I always feel like I'm a step behind what she needs.
