OK, this probably won't work but I am going to give it a shot. I was at my wholesalers today looking at a very nice trio of Oregon red spots that he won't sell me and he showed me something else that came in with them. The snake was about 18-24" long. It had keeled scales It was a solid uniform brown with a single rusty orange red stripe running down the entire length of its back. I didn't ask but they were were WC so I am assuming that this one was caught in the same area as the red spots. I didn't have my camera and I don't know if he has one or not. otold one of his employees about this site so he said he was going to try to get a picture of it and post it.

I fugured that since you people were so good at this you might not need the picture. So how about it. Anyon from the Northwest have any ideas. All my field guides are eastern so I haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

thanks

Steve

I bet it's an ordinoides. :) The species has a lot of color variation, even for a garter. I made a collage of 12 different naturally occurring morphs for a powerpoint presentation last year and there were still plenty that I couldn't find room for. One of them was uniform brown, but with a single red stripe.

Even without a photo I'm betting with Stefan on this. North Western.

Yeah, I checked out an Audobon guide book and figured that is what it was. The picture in the book showed the snake with two lateral stripes as well as the dorsal one and the color was a bit off but I figured it was a variation.

Thanks everyone, I knew I could count on you.

Rhea, my wife doesn't mind how long my wish list gets. It's when the list shrinks and the collection grows that get her.:D

Your wish list is short because you've manage to collect quite a few items that were on it!!
Mine just keeps growing because the first item on it is a bigger house to keep the rest of the list in!

Anji, I was thinking about what you said in another post, about not being able to take your neighbor's dragon because you don't have room for the cage. So here's my helpful suggestion: if you moved your kids' beds out onto the porch, you'd have room for a COUPLE of new tanks and herps!!!

No need to thank me!!!!:D

no no no
you give the kids loft beds (they'll love that) and voila - you've got space for a couple of 72"X24" cages

My ceilings are slanted and too low for loft beds.:(
Danged peaked roof houses!!!
But I could get a single bed and put Denis out on the porch...........:D

I actually have a notepad document saved on my computor titled "Lorens Herp Wish list", complete with latin and common names, and color and gender preferences for some. I update it from time to time. Some come off, some go on.
Does that make me weird?:)

I'm sorry.. did you just utter the phrase "Does that make me weird"?? Trust me, the more I get into snakes, and the more I make adjustments to my daily life in order to accomodate and please said snakes, the more I re-define the word "weird" on a daily basis... LOL!!!!

I like being weird. I embrace my inner geekiness with gaiety and glee :D

One of my fave lines from Xena was Gabrielle saying, "Isn't there anyone here who can appreciate my specialness?" LOL
