Reed, the boys are settling in very well. They have been SO active, exploring everything. Tonight tho they are just resting-- I think they wore themselves out today! Here are a couple of pics--

Thank you again for trusting me to adopt them from you, I'm thrilled with them. I love Reed II (the ribbon snake's) coloring, and I love how tame Curious is! I will try to feed them on Sat, and let you know how it goes.

Oh, what kind of little salamanders are those? Do you know what they're called? I wish we had them here. They're so cute.

Thanks Reed!

Er... Reed? So I put a salamander in the tank this morning along with salmon parts and pinky parts. And the salamander promptly ran away. LOLOL So... will Reed II hunt him down?? Or do I need to go a-salamander hunting?

And he is just so darn calm and tame-- he took the pieces right from my hand. These are really nice snakes, Reed did an awesome job with them. Curious actually perks up and comes TOWARD you when you reach in the tank... I'm so used to the Pugets who run away!! Thank you again Reed!

yess i know curious loves salmon im so glad hes eating and comfortable :):) o and about the salamander put him in a deli cup(with a lid) with them and hell eat them if he doesn't then you can always feed them to curious, but reed will always eat fish, o and make sure in the salmon pieces that there arent bones sticking out its ok if there inside (it gives calcium) but it can hurt if its outside, o and once in a while give calcium supplements if hes eating salmon

oh and you could probably put a couple minnows in a shallow bowl with the salamanders and hell eat them

Lori P
12-15-2007, 04:19 PM
Well, I just went in to peek at them and that darn salamander was drowned in the water tub!! And there is plastic greenery hanging into the bowl-- he could have climbed out-- what a dork. But as I reached in to get him out of the water, Curious came wandering over to my hand so I offered it to him-- he downed it. He is a hoot, Reed, he's so-- well-- curious and outgoing!!!

Reed II did not eat anything today, not even the guppies in the bowl, so will try again mid week.

Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis (red-sided garter) and Thamnophis sauritus ssp. (eastern ribbon).

ok well he might not be settled in yet, try leaving the fish in there for a while like a few days and then check reed II and see if he has any lumps

Thanks Stefan!

Anji, it's so funny, I fell for that ribbon the first time Reed posted pics of him. I was SO thrilled when Reed offered him to me.

Reed, will do. He looks good, he has taken a swim, and I've seen him drink. So I bet he eats soon.

Those boys are ALWAYS together, aren't they?!! If one moves, the other is soon with him. They are rarely away from each other. It's really cute.

ya there really cute, do they have some sort of platform under the heat lamp? they had a large half log over hear and would always curl up on top of it together

Thanks Stefan!

That's what I have too, a half log under the heat lamp. But what they stay on mostly here is that piece of cork bark stuff that is propped against the back wall-- I put some greenery across the top and they stay there. It also is partly under the heat lamp, and that's the part they cuddle on. Reed also gets under the water container sometimes.

Well check out Curious today!! He snatched that pinky up SO fast!!! Reed hasn't eaten yet... but he is showing great interest in some new minnows I got who are much bigger than the last ones. So hopefully he'll eat today or tomorrow...

BREAKFAST!!

These are the minnows I picked up from the bait store today. Any reason these should not be safe?? No-one there could give me a specific name for them...

Reed! You failed to tell me what a piggy Curious is!! LOL I decided to try feeding these new minnows to Reed off the tongs, and as soon as he got a sniff, Curious was right there looking for some...

And we did have great success with Reed-- he ate FOUR of them!!!! I didn't realize you could see both snakes in these pics till I put them on the computer. :-)

Laura, you're right, these are too big-- well, actually, too strong to feed live. I tried and neither of them could hold onto a live one. So I have now become a fish whacker as well... sigh... going straight to hell, I am!!!

I just love those pics!
And don't worry, I'm sure hell has no room for mere fishwackers and wormchoppers!! We're doing it for a good cause-to keep our snakies happy and well fed!! Now if you enjoy it just a little too much, then maybe you're in trouble!:D

REED!!! Your namesake ate a pinky just now!!!!!! That's the first pinky he's eaten with me-- Curious downs them, of course, along with everything else you give him but Reed has never eaten one!!!! I scented it with both salmon and the large minnows... first he ate a minnow then grabbed the pinky. Yaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!! :-)

I really didn't expect him to eat it, just thought I'd try. I'm very proud of him!! But since they all seem to change their mind about their tastes on a daily basis, we'll see what happens in the future... he may never eat one again!!

Curious was next to him in the first pic swallowing a big minnow, you just can't tell because he's behind the leaf. You know what I realized... I've never seperated these two boys to feed them. D'oh. I wonder if I should? I stadn right there and watch them, and usually Curious eats right out of my hand, so I know where he is at all times...

EdgyExoticReptiles

I've got three garters who cohabit and don't get separated for feeding
I tweezer feed them and I'm right there, so I can see what's going on
