My little checkered garter horsed down his first pinky yesterday. Scented with a guppy. Took him quite a while, but he did it. Now all 6 of my garter species/subspecies take mice. Guess that means its time to get more species...

Good job, little checkered garter!!! It's always so much fun to see them trying to get down those things that are so much bigger than their little heads!

Greg, I think your Squiggles is still too small for a whole pinky.... try splitting one lengthways, rather than trying a full one.:)

where can I get a pinky-sized guppy suit???

Just rub the pinky all over the guppy..... when it takes on the scent, Squiggles won't be able to resist!:D

I'll try to measure my checkered- he's pretty tiny yet. You wouldnt think he was big enough for a pinky by looking at him. I breed my own mice, so I hand picked the smallest newborn pinky I could find, them rinsed it off before rubbing it with a guppy. I also fed him 2 small guppies first to get him in the mood to eat. Might try again tonight if I get time.
Well, I got to get back to the reptile room now.

Success! took another one tonight. Tried it "natural" first- no luck. Washed it and scented it with a guppy- fed him the guppy, then offered the pinky, and he took it right away. Went down alot faster than the first one.

Greg, I didnt measure him, but heres a size reference- the pen is 6 " long. I took this after he ate.

I totally love that photo - with the loop and the little tail squiggle like a backwards Q
it's funny too how the pinkie looks like something from the window display of a japanese noodle shop
the whole pic has that sort of super-real appearance
