Right then guys, I'm in the middle of writing my letter to Father Christmas. I want to ask him for a digital SLR, but I could do with some advice on which one he should send me.
I want high res close-ups with good depth of field, quality results like Stefans', and none of that annoying 2 second pause before the pic actually gets taken. Any ideas folks?:)

I forget my camera brand. :P
Twas a good buy for $200 though. You can use this white-balance feature to zoom in and focus on the snake in the distance and it pixelates the rest of the pic to the same resolution. :P
I've just started experimenting with this feature. <<

If you're interested, then the current model in the same product series as my camera, is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8. But I suppose it's not technically an SLR.
Canon EOS 400D or Nikon D40.

I'll 'google' it Stefan;), although I do really want an SLR as I want to be able to switch between lenses.

The Canon EOS 400D is looking favourite so far. Though the Nikon boasts a rapid 'shutter' speed too.

I love my Canon EOS, James
and I think it does decent pics, don't you?
definitely no delay - it works like a regular SLR
my macro lens isn't even Canon and it's pretty okay
the Nikon is probably better, but probably disproportionately more expensive, so I'd get the extra lens instead

I'd like to get a new camera, mine is probably 5 years old and it has no zoom or macro mode or much of anything else really.

I just want to point out that both the Canon and Nikon models I mentioned are my own top two candidates. :p

Then I will go with your recommendation, Stefan, and tell Santa that I'd like the Canon.:)
