My wife recommends;
Finely chopped onions, saute'ed in butter.
Mix with the pre-cooked cabbage and potato.
Add an egg (beaten).
Salt and pepper to taste.
With floured hands, make the mixture into patties or small cakes, fry off in a little butter or oil.
Eat it!

Pine needles make an excellent vitamin-C rich tea. :D But you're not supposed to eat them. ;)

Here's one of my favourite recipes;
Best Ever Whisky Christmas Cake.
Before you begin, sample the whisky.
Take a large mixing bowl and a measuring cup.
Pour one level cup of whisky. Drink it.
Repeat.
With an electric mixer beat one egg in a large fluffy bowl.
Sample the whisky.
Add some fruit or salt or something.
Check the whisky for tonsilicity.
Next, sift three cups of sugar, or anything, it doesn't matter.
Pour another level cup of whisky. Drink it.
Fold in some other stuff and drink well.
Grease the oven and pour the remainder of the whisky into a cup. Drink it.
Open a second bottle of whisky.
Put some thing somewhere and discard the messy cake stuff.
Finish the whisky. Go to bed.

Reminds me of a traditional Finnish goosander (Mergus merganser) recipe. ;)
Needed:
One goosander
One bottle of vodka
Skin the bird
Let it soak in water overnight
Change the water and boil the bird for 2 hours
Chuck out the bird
Drink the vodka
This joke (or one of its many variations) is usually told when somebody asks, usually on a hunting forum, how to prepare the bird in question. The point is, that it tastes like crap no matter how you try to cook it.

I have a very similar recipe for Christmas cake in one of my email folders somewhere, only it uses vodka, and has a few more instructions! I'll have to dig it up sometime- it's certainly the right time of year!!:D
