my "little" guy aint so little anymore, I think by mid december he will have reached a foot in length. he is currently 11 1/4" and growing about an inch every 2 weeks or so :p this this I actually got to see him shed! he usually does it while I am at work, but I was home sick so I was happy that I finally got to watch! is he still to young to tell his gender yet? I heard something about tail thickness compared to the body being used to sex them, is that true? if it is, then what is what, because there is a HUGE differnce in width between Rooks tail and his body lol

females tails get small quickly after the vent where as males it gradually gets smaller, and i have accurately sexed at around 12 inches

ok, I tried to get a pic lol, but his undersidew is so light and shiny that all I got was wash out. I picked the best one though and marked where his vent is and where his tail starts(although that pretty easy to tell without the mark lol)

lol ya he's an Albino. I love his colour too, in most pics I have seen of Albino Checkereds the colours are more faded, but Rooks gets more vivid with every shed, when I got him you had to look closly to tell he had any colour at all.

ok, I will keep playing with the setting and trying to avoive the washout, unfortinatly my camera is about useless without the flash, so that just makes it harder.

Hi Shayna,

I don't want to add a bunch of confusion, but in the washed out picture, I think I can see a bit of swelling posterior to the vent. I'm not sure, but Rook may actually be a he. Don't quote me based on what I thought I saw in that picture, but if the "tail" starts where your second mark is, it's definitely a male. Swelling from the musk glands only cause enlargement within the first few scale lengths behind the vent. Only the hemipenes and their muscles cause swelling beyond about 3-4 scale lengths posterior to the vent.

In the washed out picture, it also looks like Rook may have part of the old skin still attached to the last inch or so of his tail. If it hardens, it can cut off the blood flow and cause him to lose that portion of his tail. You have plenty of time, but if I interpreted the picture right, you should wet Rook and try pealing the rest of the old skin off. Best wishes,

Rick

my mouse skills aint that good lol the tail starts slightly above the mark where it suddenly gets narrower.in any case I placed the real live Rook side by side to the picture of a female though and they are identical.

I got that bit of skin off by the way, thanks I didnt know it could cause damage :)

Nice to see Rook coming along so well. I wouldn't want to make a guess at the sex from that photo though!:D

lol I know, that why when I found those pictures I could compare too I was happy, cuz for the life of me I couldnt get a decent photo! but with the pics I can compare everything in RL and little Rookie matched the female 100%, if Rooks underbelly were green I could have replaced her in the pic and noone would be the wiser lol
