No Michelle, they don't have scent glands on their faces. I think maybe he's trying to burrow.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that something's irritating his skin.

That would seem (to me) to confirm what I thought... He's trying to burrow as a means of escape. As you know, Dekays like to burrow.

Mine spends a lot of time just partly burrowed, with his little head sticking straight up out of the aspen. I think he's just nosy and doesn't want to miss anything that might be going on around him ( like the TV!)
The one thing I find interesting is that whenever he eats, I know when he's had enough because he immediately dives right under the bark where the heat pad is and stays for a few hours. :)

Hi Anji
I Have a knitted blanket with lots of holes in it .
big holes and he loves to do the basket weaving move , you know in and out and in again.
he knits him self in the blanket and then just pops his head out , made me crack up so bad.
I also take him out to get excersize , well its like walking your snake, but heres what I do , put him on a slick sheet and he begains to do the serpent movement , but never gets the traction, so he never moves...
but wiggles like krazy and loves it .
it keeps him in good shape and he stays strong .

You can post it free on youtube.com. My ball python wipes his face off after he eats. I keep him on aspen but I put a sheet of newspaper on top of it for feeding time. He'll rub his face on it first, then proceed to his water bowl and do the same on the edges of the bowl and then drink. Must be hard to eat with no hands!

That's one of the fun things about watching them eat-- how they wipe their faces along everything! When I give Deejay salmon strips, she'll rub her head all over to position the salmon just right in her mouth before she swallows it. It's amazing how creatures with no limbs can get the job done!!:D
