Well, it has happened to us as well. My older daughter found our baby red-sided in our master bathroom staring at the bathroom scale two nights ago. This led to the discovery of the lid of the snake cage (a 10 gal aquarium with a screen top) in my younger daughter's room being ajar.
The redsided is quite a bit more active than the pudget and the pudget is more likely to hole up some where. Probably still upstairs. On each of the 3 bedroom floors, I have placed a glass bowl, containing a minnow in water, and a desk lamp over it. so far no luck. Next step is to lower the house temp a bit, probably when we go away tor 2 days for Thanksgiving.
Hows that sound?

hmm well how large is it?, if its to small it might be dead by the time you get back, and lowering temps might activate brumation mode so idk

Garters also climb up to search for a nice hide, so check the shelves and similar around.
Baby snakes can dry out during very few days!
So when it is wandering, the bathroom will be worth a second and thrid look.

i once lost a very little baby garter snake when i was like 9 and i thought it would be dehydrated and dead but then one day we found him soaking himself in the cats waterbowl :)

Hows that sound?
Sounds like a bummer, but it also sounds like you have things under control. Just in case you haven't seen this thread, it's worth a look (http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/urgent-care/2056-lost-radix.html). Some neat ideas for finding escapees there.

Thanks for all the good luck wishes. I'll put water & fish in the two bathrooms as well. The house is about 70*F. I keep looking at the heat vents wondering if a snake would venture into such a place, and if it did how I would know and how I would get it out.

My wife called, and one of the fish is missing. The bowl is on carpeted floor so if the fish just jumped out, I'd suspect it to be dried up nearby, which it isn't. My family is searching the room now.

snake found! ...while going after another bowl of fish, in another room than before, even though that room was sealed with a towel. Like someone said, you only find them when you are not looking for them, and there they are right out in the open. Thanks for everyones help and best of luck to you, RZL36.
