i don't know what to do, i discovered last night that my female checkered is gone. i have no clue how she escaped. she's a big girl, over 3 feet long and quite "hefty", so i can't imagine that she could have just disappeared. the only way would have been to lift the cage lid and squeeze through, but everything looks totally undisturbed. i want her back ! what to do, what to do....i thought about trying to lure her from wherever she's hiding but wouldn't i need to have some basic knowledge of where that is? i mean, she could be in a different room by now by crawling under the doors, she could have gotten into one of the floorvents, or, worst case scenario, the cats could have found her. i don't really think that the cats got to her because there is no "evidence of a struggle", so i'm still harboring hope that she's alive and well and that i'll get her back, i just have to figure out how to go about that.

put towels under all your doors and the cats would not eat her they would just "play" with her

you got it, rich, best of luck, and thanks for your wishes.

thanks to everybody for the advice, i already searched everywhere i can think of to no avail. i'm not giving up yet, i read too many posts on this forum from people who found their escapees even after a very long time. on the way home from work i'll pick up some minnows and see if i can't "set a trap". i'll keep you posted.

where is she hiding?

garterchick

she's hiding under our entertainment center which is huge and heavy and un-movable unless it's completely empty, so i'll try to hold off doing that and try to lure her out instead. now that i know where to look i bet i can convince her to come out to get the little fishies.

just push something under it to scare it and someone else to catch it on the other side

I've never had much luck sxaring a snake out of a hiding place
they seem to know where they're safe
personally I find that sneakiness and patience work better
such as hanging out quietly and waiting
I'd make myself comfortable by that entertainment center, equipped with sufficient reading materials, puzzles, snacks (no noisy snacks) and beverages . . . .
it's a bit like a siege

that's what i'll do, although it won't be easy, not a patient person by nature.

i got her! it wasn't by waiting, i just didn't think i could pull that off. we emptied the entertainment center and moved it away from the wall, then i chased her out from under it and grabbed her. not the most gracefull way to do things but very effective. i'm happy to have her back, now i need to look in to makeing the tank escape-proof.
thanks for everybodys support

Sorry folks, no news. I think I hear her at night and have even sent my big Cali King out looking for her (figure she would pick up on the smell and want to eat her) and she goes right under my floorboard, except she is too big to get under. The garter though could do it no problem.

I want to do a happy dance. Instead I'll do the misery waltz. j/k.

actually, snakes tend to tuck against walls go both ways in ur house against the wall. if u cant find her that way, get frozen mice and hamg them around with fishing line, if the try to eat it, just cut the line where they are stuck, the line wont hurt them to be ingested.
