Well, after a six-month break, Deejay finally decided it was time to grow again, and this time I got to watch the whole process.
Usually I come in at the very end or the little turkey does it in the middle of the night and I find the shed the next morning!
It was actually rather comical to watch -- when she first worked the skin off her nose and eyes, it folded back straight up, so she looked just like Cleopatra with her big tall headpiece!! Then she did this little inchworm dance/wiggle to get the rest of the way out, not the most graceful sight!!
It turned out to be a less than perfect shed; her old skin tore about half way through, and I ended up having to help her with the last inch and a half of her tail -- she really did not want to give up that old skin!! But she's all bright and shiny and happy now!!:) Hope the next one isn't another six month wait!

Well done Deejay! It was high time you changed your clothes!

By the way, I should have said she looked like Queen Nefertiti, not Cleopatra. My history is a bit rusty but I caught my mistake just after I posted.....oops!:o

It's indeed a fun thing to watch. And a new 'shiny' deejay arrives:)

Ohhhh, I SO wanted to take pics today, but I don't have a digital camera. I have to borrow my father-in-law's, and I forgot to ask him for it yesterday when I saw him. I'm kind of mad at myself about that, because I knew she'd probably shed today, and once I saw how funny it was, I really wanted pics..........WAAHHH!!!:(:(

I'll definitely get the camera this weekend, when baby Dekay's comes home!!!;)

It depends on how fast they are growing and how much wear and tear their skin is subjected to. My snakes, when they've been feeding properly, have been shedding every 4-5 weeks. But they have been relatively young snakes and still growing.

Brandon, judging from the size of your garters, I would not expect them to shed very often. Deejay's not even half the size of yours, and she's going up to six months at a time. Like Stefan said, if they're young and growing, they'll shed more often. I think yours are pretty full grown!:)

4 feet long????? My god, I think you should start hoping they don't shed anymore, even your 175G tank won't hold those guys much longer at that rate!!
What the hell are you feeding them?? MiracleGro??:D

Well, you're certainly raising an impressive bunch of garters. I wonder if I can get Deejay to grow like that..........then again, I wonder where I'll keep her if she does!!

I agree, but bigger vivs are also more expensive, and, well........bigger! My house is VERY small!!!:D I think we'll be okay with what we're using for now, in any case!
