so Drache, my PI king snake has been having a little swelling near his left lower jaw for about a couple of weeks
it hadn't changed much and I decided to just keep an eye on it and to try to keep him from brumating
he did not take food last week, but he's also been looking a bit dull and I can't remember the last time he shed, so . . .
then from Saturday to Monday that thing suddenly grew
he doesn't hold still, but I got a couple of pics

it's a huge lump under his jaw now
weird angle, but you get the idea

so I got to experience my new vet again
I'm happy with her
she's very clinical and direct
we agreed that it felt like an abcess
she tapped it with a syringe and came up with pus
gave him an antibiotic injection and me a take-home bag with a meticulously written out schedule

the two snakes I brought in last time have still not eaten, so I'd brought them along
they were given vitamin B shots

Poor snake! I am glad that you have a vet you feel you can trust. (I have not had that luck). Do you give the injections into the muscle or just under the "skin"? Good luck.

Poor guy! I'm curious too, where they are given the injections. I'm not familiar with amyiglyde, will have to look it up to see what kind of abt it is.

Hope you're feeling better soon Drache! Chin up!! (Snicker snort):D

the injections are given into the back muscle of the upper body (meaning toward front end) - this is to avoid hitting the kidneys by accident

Wow, Rhea, it's a good thing you found that new vet; she certainly is getting enough business from you lately! Poor Drache, he doesn't look too happy at all. Hope he feels better soon.:)

We have a very good vet here as well, that's worth a lot...
