Hi Guys,

I thought I'd post a few recent photos of the T. s. tetrataenia I got from Gijs & Sabine earlier this year. They're coming along very nicely!:D

You've seen this one before...taken early August.
http://www.thamnophis.com/thamphotos/data//539/medium/tetra_2.jpg

They've grown a bit since then! Taken today.

San Fran garters are very nice. Not too sure if they are going to be in the wild in a decade. I'm sure glad that they are being bred in captivity.

James,
Do the dorsal stripes have an aqua green tint to them?

James, Do the dorsal stripes have an aqua green tint to them?

Yes they do, Rich, and it's getting stronger as they grow. Sorry the pics are not good quality, my camera's rubbish in all but strong sunlight.

You would, they're not quite as 'gaudy' as flash photography makes them appear. Really quite attractive in the flesh.

I agree 100%! mine never look as good in a pic as what they do in real life.

the aqua is now becoming alot more dominant underneath and down the dorsal line. I can't than Gijs and Sabine enough for these beautiful little things :D

My tetra is difficult to catch, but she calms down pretty quickly when you have picked her up. Still, she's very unpredictable and I'm always afraid that something might spook her.

Beautiful!! Why can't we have them over here?
federally protected endangered species.....sucks that we can't buy them with proper paperwork from over seas...but the govt will say they can't tell captive bred from wild caught and won't allow them period....

federally protected endangered species.....sucks that we can't buy them with proper paperwork from over seas...but the govt will say they can't tell captive bred from wild caught and won't allow them period....
What about the possibility of having them registered and chipped? Or is it just not worth it?

ssssnakeluvr
02-02-2008, 10:51 AM
thats a good idea, but.....if they breed, chipping little babies would be dangerous to their health....the microchip is the size of a grain of rice....14 gauge need used to insert the chip (I work with the local shelter, we chip all dogs and cats th at get adopted out), nearly as big as some of the baby snakes I've seen!!!! plus, our govt.....yea...thats part of the problem....too strict. should allow proven breeders work with them to help rebuild the population.

Shanley, the female is around 20 inches, at a guess.... I haven't measured her. I think she'll be breeding size next spring. The males are obviously smaller, but they should also be mature and ready to mate in 2009.
I really need to get my head around the 'snake measuring' software.

adamanteus
