Hey everyone, thanks for the quick replies!

I apologize about the low quality of the pictures, but to be honest, they turned out better than I had even hoped they would (cell phone camera). I only have one more picture that I took of it with me, which is pretty similar to the 2nd one I showed you (which is why I didn't include it at first), but maybe the slightly different angle may be of help?

Found it in Eastern Iowa, so I guess most of your guesses of Radix or Sirtalis seem plausible based on region.

Just found it interesting cuz it was the first "wild" snake I've seen/caught (very temporarily) after living in the Chicago suburbs most of my life and then three years here in Iowa. Ironically, just last week I saw my first lizard (with the exception of vacations to Florida), a skink just a half a block from where I found this guy. Crazy what you can find when you keep your eyes open.

The lateral stripe seems to be in the second and third rows, I'd say T. sirtalis annectens. T. radix would have it in the third and fourth.

Charlet_2007

thats cool but whats a intergrade? and how hard is it to fine another one like him but only a female?

EdgyExoticReptiles
11-02-2007, 05:41 PM
and intergrade is a mix like a cross-breed

thats cool but whats a intergrade? and how hard is it to fine another one like him but only a female?

To be slightly more specific, an intergrade is what results from the natural breeding of two sub-species where their geographical ranges overlap. A natural occurrence of cross breeding between two sub-species,

well what im aware of kings are very popular cross-breeding snakes so even if u didnt find one exactly its ok (well its up to u) try kingsnake.com - the information portal for reptile and amphibian hobbyists. (http://www.kingsnake.com)

thats cool but whats a intergrade? and how hard is it to fine another one like him but only a female?

Would anybody like to comment on my suggestion that the garter Charlet posted pictures of, might be a T. sirtalis annectens and not necessarily a T. radix?

ssssnakeluvr
11-02-2007, 09:51 PM
I'd say charlet's photo is not a radix...side stripe is on rows 2 and 3...radix are on 3 and 4...the first pics, the small thumbnails, are radix. charlet's looks like a t s annectens.....some radix do have bright orange stripes, however side stripes give it away.

The garter above is for sure a T. sirtalis annectens. Where did you find it? They are actually quite rare.
