Sorry but I'm going to have to bring this up, and don't take it to wrong.....
It just seems to me that, you just seem to want to jump into all of the diff. types of animals, and your questions keep coming up about breeding....now I'm not saying don't breed or try to make a little money or something, but it seems like thats your motivation, just to get these animals and worry about if you can get a mate and if you can breed them...Frankly and this is just my opinion, if your just starting or you don't know to much about the animal you shouldn't even want to breed it until you have a little experiance behind you....I know I'm sorry for shooting you down like that and singling you out, but this is just how I've taken it,
and its my opinion, and what do I know I myself am new to Garters, and lots of other things.........once again I'm sorry, but had to say it.........

noo, i just tend be an impulsive buyer which ive been trying to end, so ive been exploring my options for the past months trying not to buy the wrong thing i also have a lot of limits set by my mom like it cant be to big or have to many babies, can be to large, cant have eggs, cant eat only pinkies etc, and i dont get the money anyways it goes to my mom for garter experiences such as feeding and stuff,i think im just going to stick with trying to get a flame garter there so pretty, o and azules gunna shed soon yay his eyes just cleared so it should be in the next 1 or 2 days, do they grow like an inch after shedding?

Reed, I see where your coming from and like I said it wasn't to shoot you down or anything, its just where I misunderstood it all like usual.....:o but
good luck with getting the Flame they are very pretty, and can be some what pricey......next spring Scott Felzer will have some, but I think he sells them for $100-$150 not totly sure but you can go to his web site and check.............and for the growing part, it really depends on the snake!!
from the babies that I got from Felzer they were all about 8" and now about 2 months later they are veried 9,10,11 and maybe even 12" long so it really depends on the snake, and how well they eat and stuff......hey Reed thanks for understanding and good luck with your animals.......:)

I was looking at Scott's site yesterday, and the flames were going for $100. I won't be getting one anytime soon either, it looks like!! Still gonna look when I go to Quebec next summer, If I get really lucky maybe I'll find 2, and give one to you Reed!:D ( you realise that I absolutely suck when it comes to being able to find snakes, though...........):o:o

justin, i know what you were thinking about reed 'cause initially i was thinking the same thing. i just assumed that reed is young and a little immature, but i recently bought one of his snakes and the deal went as smoothly as any other snake transaction i've had so far. so, reed, keep asking whatever questions you have and good luck getting a flame.
ps: if i can figure out how to do this brumation thing correctly i should have some flame babies next year. if you're still in the market for one i'll give you a special price.

Reed, don't ever stop asking questions its how we learn a lot of things...
Like I said, I wasn't trying to discurage you or anything, I just had to say it because thats how I took it.....so it was kinda like a poorly ask question to you and glad that I did it, because know I understand your view on the whole thing, and said sorry for the way I made it sound........So keep asking and don't pay any attention to my ramblings.......:D

I guess that this is the species you mean... Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia http://www.johanmarais.co.za/Gallery01Snakes01/heraldsnake.jpg
I have no experience with this species, but as far as I know it is a frog-eater.Biggest problem, I guess, is finding this South-African species. Is not a regular species in the hobby.
