When I came home from work this evening I found my female baby T.c.occelatus dead in the tank. No idea why, she was fine this morning. She's been eating regularly and showing no signs of anything being wrong. But there she was, dead. I'm gutted. I doubt I'll have the opportunity to replace her this year.

Oh James I´m sorry for you.
I know what you may feel and what kind of questions will torture your brain.
Will you give her to a lab to find the cause of dead?

Oh, I'm so sorry James. I know how it drives you nuts when you don't have any clue what happened... you just keep questioning yourself over and over. Really sorry.

Hugs from here!!

Thanks guys. It does drive you a bit crazy! I keep getting up to check on the male! I won't be sending her for tests, maybe if she had been older and died as mysteriously. It seems to me that babies can occasionally do this, one day fine, next day dead.

sorry for your loss, james. you're right, this kind of thing can happen for no reason, or at least that's what it seems like, i bet everyone had similar experiences at some time, myself included. 'guess that doesn't make things better for you, sorry.

Damn. I'm really sorry to hear that, James. :( But it sort of goes to show that if it can happen to you, it can happen to anyone and for no apparent reason.

Expressing my condolences too.
Surely you did everything right, that you could.
Life always ends in death, that we know, but when it ends before we expect, it seems so terribly unfair..

although it can be disputed, most people who kept them for a long time and have had lots of experiance with it, have told me hole in the head is
caused more by the inbalance of nitrates, and nitrites in the water, than form other things like fish, but thats just what I've been told......:)
