View Full Version : weird snake lol
so..Rook likes me? lol cuz apperntly he thought he was going to eat his pinkie in my hand tonight. I mean he often times doesnt wanna leave my hand, but he usaly leaves for his dinner. but no, what does he do? he looks at his food, wraps himself tighter around my finger and grabs his pinkie and takes it into my hand with him . the Pinkie however was big enugh compared to his small size to make him loosen up from my finger so I was able to get him off my hand and into his tank to eat lol.

when your able to spend a lot of time with your snake youŽll become a "natural" part of thier habitat.
Maybe something like a heatsource?

I have a few snakes that seem to enjoy being with humans - or at least with me
and I do have some babies that will eat on my hand
I think what Udo says is true - you become part of their habitat
From my own experience, if I handle any of mine very routinely, they become very calm in hand. If I don't, they very quick to run and hide.

I've also noticed a difference when you handle them often. The female I had that passed away recently rarely got picked up, mostly because I was too nervous to handle her since she panicked and bit. Since then, and since I've been learning so much on this forum, I've made it a point to handle the baby every day, and yes, I can see her eating out of my hand soon enough. She's become so calm in just a couple of weeks!! I do also think they like the warmth, too!

That sounds really cute when it's said. But I dunno if I'd wanna do it myself (I won't even touch Mr. Pink haha that's the Mister's job!).

I always wonder about the fear of touching snakes
I think it must be a thing of imagination applied to a bad rep
because whenever people talk about their fear of touching snakes, the word "slimy" tends to crop up
to me touching a snake is a pleasure (unless it totally isn't for them)
the way that they're cool and dry when one first picks them up
I think their scales feel like the links of those finely crafted wide flat gold bracelets
and the way they glide over everything - it's so elegant
and that feather touch of the tongue - doesn't everybody want to be touched like that?
what's not to love about how a snake feels?

Rhea, that's a great description of how a snake feels. I may need to plagiarize that someday. :-)
