Only it they mate together:D

to know if a normal looking snake is a het, you have to ask the breeder
a het and an albino will produce one half hets again and the rest albinos

what if its a het albino then will all the babies be albino? and just half hets?

het X het = some het and some albino- albinos are not guaranteed
het X albino= some het and some albino- albinos are not Guaranteed
albino X albino= all albino- Guaranteed all albinos
Het snakes have a reccesive and dominant gene. Albinoism is a reccesive gene.
Aa=het reccesive and dominant-only dominant genes are shown
aa= reccesive- complete albino
Aa X aa = Aa or aa
Aa X Aa = AA or aa or Aa
aa X aa = aa only
there is no way to tell if a snake is het by sight, it requires knowing the parents.
Hope this helps

Lori be afraid of this Lori,
you can build such a table for snow for example or erythristic snow
than the letters become to crawl on your eyes like little spiders:eek:

if i had a normal checkered garter x an albino checkered would that make half and half?

the babies would be hets..... as far as albino x albino breeding, the genes need to be compatible also...i bred my nebraska albino with my iowa christmas albino and got hets as the genes aren't conmpatible...gotta match up in the dna....

Yes...Genetics are quite simple...when you finally master them!
As Don says...
nebraska albino with my iowa christmas albino
These are two albino strains....So you wil get offspring het for Nebraska en het for Iowa.
But to answer your question...Yes, Normal marcianus X albino marcianus will give you nothing but hets.
Breeding those hets back to each other (brother X sister pairing...) will give you 25 % albino and al the others would be poss. het albino (not a garantuee there will be any albino's in the litter. With each baby, you have a 25% chance of it being albino)
Breeding an het. baby back to the albino parent will result in 50 / 50. 50 %^will be albino and the other 50 % will be het. albino. No possible hets in this story!
But again, nog garantuee that there will be any albino's! On the other hand its also possible all the babies are albino! (theoretically...spelling??? )
If you have any questions...always ask! I think I can say I'm quite into the genes...(school and 3 years of breeding leopardgecko morphs...and, with that, 2 years of deciding to breed with them-->doing genetic ""research"" )

but no quarantuee to get any hets too(all can be albino too)
its just like casting the dice again and again;)

I know the feeling. :) I actually manage to wrap my brain around it for about 5 seconds before I lose it again. It's not even a year since I last had it explained to me and I actually had a clear picture in my head, but right now I'm as confused as you. :D

Now I don't feel so bad
I always thought, you had a total grip on this kind of stuff
I was ashamed to admit, that I have to draw it out on paper every time and somehow there's no permanent file in my brain
Stefan-A

I don't know, it's not that complicated. :D
reptileparadise
10-12-2007, 09:04 AM
Well, I must admit...its easier to draw things out on paper...but after a while (about 500 drawings :P ) you get the hang of it and you can 'draw in your mind'...saves the forest ;)

I´ve bred fancy guppies for some years.
When you once have tried to deal with an inheritance about 5 genes you will never mind again about one or two.
You must to draw things like that on a paper to decide wich specimens to mate first.
Guppies are really fine to work that out because they can have 100 babies in one litter or 300 in a few months.

I think I understand it now, did a bit of reading on some of the dozens of websites that explain how it works. :D
But don't worry, it'll be gone again in a couple of minutes. ;)

I'm not even going to try to get the genetics game into my head. Should I ever feel the need to breed, I will come here and pester you all with questions!!! LOL :-)

just do a little research on gregor mendel, once you understand his tables that he used for bean plants, you can use it for just about anything

Gregor is my hero
I've always wanted to be just like him
quietly watching the peas grow, writing . . .
and above all - I want the wife and servants that make it all possible
Stefan-A
10-13-2007, 06:24 AM
I'm not sure he had a wife. ;) Well, priests had it good back then. :D
drache
10-13-2007, 06:51 AM
you're probably right about him not having a wife
us protestants forget about those details
but I'm sure he was well supplied in other ways
I am convinced that I myself could have been a renaissance man, given the proper support staff and financial backing
I don't begrudge Mendel his privileges in the least - we should all have them

Mendel was an augustian friar from Austria.;)
He got best possible education and than could study in his convent in Brünn.
