Well,

I do like Thamnophis sp and a couple other groups of small colubrids but I must say at heart I am a lizard lover. So I'm wondering who else on this forum likes them too!!! Here's a couple of the inhabitants that currently reside with me.

Argentine tegu (Tupinambis merinae)

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h8/Ameivaboy/DSC02028.jpg

Colombian Tegu (Tupinambis teguixin)

A pair of Jeweled Lacertas (Timon Lepidus)

2.2 Southern Alligator Lizards (Elgaria Multicarinata)

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h8/Ameivaboy/DSC01839.jpg

along with those I also have an adult trio of Leopard geckos and varying amounts of their offspring. So what all do you have???

I have a few. They definately have a different character than snakes.

I've kept many in the past, some have died of age, other's unfortunately when my learning curve was still pretty steep. Here's a recently lost guy that I miss.

I have had many lizard species in the past, but none just now. My favourites (if I must choose) would be Varanids and Teiids.

I've had anoles and skinks, but I don't have any lizards at the moment. If I ever get into lizards again, I'll be focusing on skinks or lacertids.

I canīt get any permission to keep animals with legs from my wife but my favorite would be Uromastyx.

Don't keep as many lizards as I used to. Became allergic to insect droppings somewhere along the way...so got rid of all my insect cultures. I only have my one Blue tongue and my one leopard gecko yet.

Collards are very cool. Used to have a pair of them in a 100gal. tank and when ever they got fed, they'd run up this big log and sit at the door waiting for me to open it up. Really cool, miss them.

I have two Australian water dragons m/f and two house geckos. Until recently I had 6 adult bearded dragons and 46 babies but I found new homes for all of those, had too many.

lori i hav been thinking about getting a beardie when i get my own place. how hard are they to look after?

Tori
10-16-2007, 08:12 PM
Not sure if you mean me or Lori but I'll answer. They are easy to keep but need a fairly large cage to be happy. I kept mine in 2 x 4 cages with perches that they could climb on attached to the back wall. They eat crickets, meal worms, that sort of thing plus lots of different veggies and fruits. Have to use UVB lights and they need fairly high temps, low humidity. You can't keep two males together or even a male and female together because the male only wants to fight or breed and I'm not sure if he really cares which one. Flighty as babies but calm and laid back as adults if handled frequently. I could give exact requirements if you decide to get one.

Lulu, you do realise the lizards in Tori's pics are Australian Water Dragons and not Australian Bearded Dragons, don't you?:D Don't want you to be disappointed!

I want some of those (Aussie Water Dragons) so much!

I just built a temporary step to Henner's cage, so he can get back in on his own when he's done roaming
when I've built the permanent one I'll post a pic
right now it's just a storage container covered with a towel that's held in place by a rolled out ankle weight
he loves it

Kevin
I've not had him brumate before (he's only two yrs old)
do think I should?
and what about the plateds?

Thanks Lori! I have to admit that Cujo there is my personal favorite. He is very friendly as far as reptiles go. He will show up in any room where I am sooner or later. Either laying or climbing on me and loves to watch me type. I have learned NOT to wiggles my toes at him though, and also not to wink at him. Wiggling toes = food and I have to wonder if eye lashes remind him of cricket legs or something. Nothing is quite like getting licked right in the eyeball. I am looking forward to having him with me for the next 10 - 15 years.

I love lizards, and have had quite a few in the past. The only ones I have now are a Crested Gecko, who I named Geico, and a baby Bearded Dragon named Logan.

How do you take care of an aligator? When it gets big? They are so gorgeous. I've never heard of people keeping them as pets before.

And to everyone, amazing pics!

one thing I love about the uros is their enthusiasm about food
it's a big switch from Henner, the beardie, who is extremely picky
the uros come to the front of the cage for any kind of veggie matter
yesterday I brought them a treat from the yard

Rhea, they are soooooo adorable!!!!!

Several months ago, I saw a video-- on here, I think?-- of a lizard runnnig in a hamster wheel. I finally remembered to get one for Eddie and today, he discovered it!!!! Too fun!!!!! He's been in and out of it all day. :)

lizard on the wheel - very cool
is that one of the special rat wheels, where their tails can't get caught?

here's a question for you experienced lizard keepers:
Mikaila and I would like to give Henner a girlfriend, but we don't have space for another beardie sized tank (we will, but it's spoken for) and I've always assumed the we would need one
a few days ago I spoke with someone who said that I could keep an adult male and female together in my 4'x2'x17" tank
I am wondering whether I just made up my mind that I couldn't because at the time I'd just thought of getting a baby and then, well . . . it could be male - and needing his own space for sure
but let's say I adopted an adult female, could that work?
I'd think the tank's a bit small, but Henner gets to roam, and so would she

Wow...Why haven't I seen this topic before??? :O

Besides the garters, I also keep some gecko's...and offcourse, Red, my 6 year old bearded dragon.
Okay, the geckos...
2.1 Eurydactylodes agricolae (no common name, sometimes refered to as 'chameleon geckos' )
1.3 Rhacodactylus cilliatus (crested geckos) Was a lucky buy...Bought a pair, which turned both turned out female. Female cilliatus are really, really! hard to find in Europe...
1.1 Oedura monillis (velvet geckos) Awesome australian species. Always active and curious)
2.2 Underwoodisaurus milli (thick tailed barking gecko) They don't call 'm "barking" geckos for nothing ;)
0.3 Eublepharis macularius (leopard gecko) All bred by me. But I stopped breeding them and sold my breeding group to a beginning breeder. The three all have missing toes due to bad sheds. One of them lost its tail...My first tail dropped in 5 years keeping them.
0.0.2 Rhacodactylus auriculatus ( gargoyle gecko)
and non gecko's
1.0 Pogona vitticeps (bearded dragon)
1.1 Bombina orientalis (oriental fire bellied toad) The male from this pair is 8! years old now. He was my first " reptile "".
