some breeders give a quarantee like that.
Was erverything all right about the shipment?

Yes, everything was 'okay' as in the box was not damaged in any way, and there were no abnormal circumstances except for a dead baby snake. I am curious if I am the only one who 'assumes' the seller takes responsibility for 'live' arrival. I thought that was a given, actually I never gave it any thought until now which is why I am asking. This is the very first experience with a DOA.

So, no abnormal circumstances, you send a snake, it dies in transit, you (the buyer) expect the seller to refund your money in total (including shipping) or replace the animal ... Is that correct ???

That's what I would expect.... much the same as receiving any goods 'damaged in transit'.

I agree with the others. I think a responsible person (shipper) should offer to replace the snake for free. If not, than a refund doesn't sound unreasonable.

This all applies unless you've been dealing with "bob". You know how he used to work.

The seller should replace the animal or give a refund at their discretion.
If they do not do so then posting about them someplace like the BOI (board of inquiry) on FaunaClassifieds - Site Home Page (http://faunaclassifieds.com) to let others know about their bad business practices. If a refund is given you should not expect compensation for shipping costs.

Usually sellers have DOA clause in their TOS which states specifics of what they expect upon the customer receiving a dead animal (like reporting the matter immediiatly, providing pictures and even sending the animal back)

I have heard stories of shady individuals even shipping snakes that were already dead and knowingly shipping sick animals that died in transit.

If the seller does not do what is good business I would post on fauna.

i think both parties never want that to happen. if it was me i would at least want a new snake free of charge, but i think the buyer should be willing to pay for the extra shipping. paying another shipping fee wouldnt be too unreasonable, that way both buyer and seller sacrifice a little to correct the mishap, but if the seller wants to pay for shipping that say alot for the person.

most sellers I've dealt with have guaranteed live animals for a week

have you tried to contact the seller to find out what their policy is? i think that should be your first step.

I think you should contact them, and do it right away or you might end up
sh*t out of luck on this, even Felzer says to let them know right away of any problems or atleast in the first day or two afterwards, and he gives a
very good policy with his snake........well hope that helps....good luck:)

Thanks to all for sharing your point of view ... I did contact the seller immediately and I was totally surprised that the initial response was that 'he' was not responsible for shipping. That took me by surprise as I just 'assumed' that the seller had some liability for the buyer receiving their 'goods' intact. After a few emails this has been resolved, a replacement animal is due to arrive Tuesday and I agreed to split the cost of shipping. I have never received a DOA before so I posed this question to the forum wondering if I were the only one with these expectations.

Sorry to hear that Marian, but honestly anytime I've ordered something I've always checked with the person on exactly what the terms are and what they're willing to do incase something does happen. Not paying the shipping doesn't really surprise me much, but glad you were able to work something out and hope this one comes through in good shape.

Hey Roy, I was curious as to what other folks expected. Seems I have just been fortunate up until this point. Hopefully this post will alert others to discuss this type of thing upfront as you already do :)

If a snake dies during normal shipping there was something wrong with the animal in the first place. If the shipping was delayed a day or so I could see the sellers arguement. That is the risk with shipping live animals. They don't insure them because you are really not supposed to be doing it.Unless you go delta dash.I am not even sure if they insure live arrival either.

Josh, I PM'ed you ...

Hey Tom, Thanks for responding ... This whole transaction has me puzzled, from the seller's attitude to the baby snake itself. This was the nicest, most robust looking DEAD snake I have ever seen !!! It did not appear that she had been dead too long and she looked SO good I was startled that she was indeed dead. My impression in regards to a sellers responsibility is the same as yours.

Thanks guys ... enjoy your weekend !!!

I'm glad it worked out.

I have never had a snake arrive dead but I had one die overnight after it came. It seemed perfect in every way and when I went to check on it in the morning it was dead. I had not fed it or anything. I contacted the seller, offered to send photos etc. He was a true gentleman and said no need for photos and sent me out a replacement the next day! That was Scott Felzer and I have the utmost respect for him and the way he conducts his business.

I have to say as a new internet seller I would probably want to see photos or something but would also send out a new snake without charging the buyer for shipping. It is the cost of doing business.
